Title: IBM Model M (1395985) with LED mod , £1,260
Post by: 1395985 on Mon, 09 April 2012, 16:23:00
Hello.

I am selling my IBM Model M (1395985 type) with the LEDs modded as shown---> http://www.flickr.com/photos/22008695@N03/sets/72157629779590803/

Num Lock + Caps Lock are white LEDs, but soft and subdued, not blinding. Scroll lock is an LED which slowly cycles through various colours, and again - subdued, not blinding. This is a genuine IBM Model M, extremely good condition (see my other FLICKR photos on this forum) which has been stripped and deep cleaned, 2 weeks ago.

1/ Yes, it is MINT, apart from one TINY  scratch at the top back edge, which can barely be seen.

2/ Yes, ALL the keys work perfectly, no exceptions.

3/ No, there is NO KEY WEAR WHATSOEVER. This is genuine IBM PBT plastic.

4/ Yes, the keyboard is immaculate, and the Birth Certificate (IBM, 1991) intact, made in UK, 1991.

5/ The lead type is long and curly, SDL to PS/2, detachable cable.

6/ PAYPAL is the only method of payment I can accept, and I will ONLY ship to UK buyers. The sale ends 2:30am Tomorrow, BST, and by that time I must have received the full and final agreed asking price via PayPal, which is what is to be discussed herein, + £10.50 shipping fee via Royal Mail.

£1,260... Nah, JOKING... it's £45 really! + £10.50 P&P. Reduced for fast sale! Come on! :-)

4) Pricing: We would like sellers to a) explicitly name their asking prices and b) not edit those prices out post-sale. this would allow the forum archives to be a useful price discovery mechanism.

Fixed. Added a price.

PS: It may help that you reference sources from which you quote things; don't assume I know where you pulled that from, as I do not.

Thanks :-)

Although these seem like a proposal more than a rule list.  #5 is a bit blurry

Can't really see what you're selling. Leave the LEDs alone and put some clear pictures.

"Leave the LEDs" doesn't make sense. It's perfectly clear - I am selling a Model M with two white LEDs and one colour cycling LED. What's confusing you?

Thanks.

I believe he means he wants to see the full keyboard, in full light. We already see the leds, we want to see the rest in a well lit photo. Such as, the back side of the kb, top, sides, etc....

If it wasn't "butched" it would be a alright price for a model m in the UK.

I don't know if you mean "butched" or "butchered", which it isn't, as I am a certified electronics technician, and swapping out 3x LEDs is a trivial operation. Regardless, it's still a great price, and noone's forcing anyone to buy it. It has been clearly stated that the original GREEN LEDs can be put back, if requested.

Don't posion my thread please, thanks.

I wasn't meaning to be horrible. Just keyboards are better original. As for my spelling, as many people must of noticed I'm not to good at it.

It's alright, I understand :-) thanks for clarifying.

Yeah, the original LEDs can be restored, no problem!

It's still £45.

1395985 was formerly glossywhite, who was banned from Deskthority “at his own request” (http://deskthority.net/off-topic-f10/please-ban-me-to-prove-you-have-no-other-reason-to-but-this-t2289.html), and temp-banned here for thread spamming.  On Deskthority, he had a tendency to argue with people, then retroactively edit his posts (http://deskthority.net/off-topic-f10/the-ultimate-flame-topic-t680-210.html) to gibberish to make it look like he was being wronged.

He’s a flake, and I would strongly urge caveat emptor if dealing with him.

That explains why he's "in the know".

Hey, judge me all you like - go ahead, I'm cool with it. There is another member in this very forum with a Model M winging its' way to him via Royal Mail as we speak, and if you don't want to buy the board, then why are you insistent on sitting in the middle of my thread getting all bitter and resentful? That's no way to behave, and certainly doesn't earn you respect. If you want to buy it, feel free. If you want to judge me, feel free too. Fortunately I have better things to do than to judge you, as I am sure of who I am, and I don't know you, so I would have no right to do so, and neither could I care for taking such a prideful stance as to judge a stranger.

I forgive your bitterness, and won't report you for "thread-crapping". I'm fine with who I am, and I respect that you're trying to look out for others, but I am no scammer, and a very straight forward and legit guy.

Take care.

Now, we can resume the sale topic! :-)

PS: Yes, I *was* glossywhite - well done for noticing. I am here to make a fresh start, not to "hide" or pretend I am not. I don't carry my burdens of grudge as a heavy load, I choose to release the burden by forgiving people who judge me, and by trying hard NOT to judge others myself. I make mistakes, we ALL make mistakes, but not one single person is "better" than another fellow man. You've worked out who I am, and that's really good - great. Now, let's just stop twitting around, and leave one another alone, so we can get on with life. I am sorry for my past persona, it won't be repeated.

Thanks again :-)
