So, believe it or not geekhackers I am a sewing contractor. Yes yes, hold your applause. Anyway, me and my father run a MFG plant down in east dundee, IL called Creative Sewing LLC. People come to us with blue prints and designs, then we push out a prototype, and if the customer likes it we produce large quantities of it. You know those pizza heatwave bags your pizza guy delivers your pizza's in? My father invented it and quite a few other things(everything on itzyritzy.com and paratech is made by us). We just finished designing and are now mass producing our military's up and coming standard rifle cases, the SCAR-H.
Moving to the subject matter of this post, tomorrow my HHKP2 comes in and during this time of agony waiting for it i have done quite a few rough designs for my own personal case with mouse bag, numpad pocket, keycap pockets, lube/tool pockets etc. We work with everything; From Dacron, fiberglass, copy-write thermal fabrics, leather...you name the textile we have it, im a camouflage freak my self(woodland, digital, arctic etc.) We do pretty much everything except tailor work and we like to avoid upholstery. Anyway
It got me thinking if anyone would be interested in their own, customized and personal keyboard/peripherals case. Now we don't personally do embroidery or silk screening at our MFG, but we have people who do it for us. If you don't know what embroidery is, it's like sewing in a design or your name into a fabric. Silk screening is like inking a picture or your name onto it. Silk screening is what they use for t-shirts.
So i figure the size guide lines that i can lead off with a basic bag for different keyboard sizes.
Bag type #1. Single keyboard bags /w carrying handle
Bag Type #2. Single keyboard Bags /w See through/non-see through Satchel cover.
Sizes
Model M Size (Large)
10 key-less (Medium)
Deck-82/Poker/HHKB size (Small)
Multi-keyboard bag /w protective separators (Custom)
You can have the bag in any textile fashion you want, Black with camo pockets etc. (More details later)
my first design so far looks kinda like a satchel bag with a fold over flap and buckle, with felt on the inside to protect the keys and the outside to be made from any kind of fabric to leather all laced and sewn together with soft Dacron surrounding a soft yet firm tubing plastic. My original design bag is meant to fit MANY keyboards, not just one. So when I push out my own prototype I'll put some pictures up to give people a general idea and I'll embroider "Geek Hack" on the front.
If i get enough people interested, I'll be more than happy to start designing different sized bags. Feel free to drop opinions and what you'd like to see in a Keyboard/mouse/other bag. Stuff like plastic or metal grommets, detachable and adjustable slings with sliding shoulder guards, Zippers/Velcro,Military Velcro, Buttons, A little hole in the bag for your cable to let you use your keyboard right from your bag with in bag angle adjusters, See through plastic laminate bags. Detachable Velcro peripheral cases etc. I'll take a picture of our show room which has over 20 years of bag designs to give a spark of creativity.
Oh, and if you are interested in your own embroidery and or silk screening work (like having your Geekhack alias on your bag) it will probably cost extra. With embroidery being more than silk screening. I note this now because i know this wont get too much publicity and small orders of this kind of work cost more than big orders. If i cant at least get 20 orders i probably wont be able to offer embroidery at all. So, if you're interested let me know, and feel free the spread the word. With this kind of job, the more people the better!
Cheers,
Omerta
PS. Don't be discouraged if you think pricing will be through the roof, pretty much every bag you see for anything on the internet is a gigantic rip off. You wouldn't believe how some of the stuff you see is made pennies on the dollar. (For example, Elitekeyboards charging $70 for a leather wrist wrest? They didn't even bother to hide the Chinese sweatshop stitching rofl)
PSS. Also, if you think we are a huge MFG we are the opposite. Me, my father, and about 6 to 8 minorities...well if you think about it me and my father are the minority in the facility. About 8 of us can push out 200-500k bags in under 2 weeks. So dont discredit us! lol.

oh man, i'm a massive bag addict. i'm in for something for sure.
do you think you could do a protective mbp + aluminum poker bag?

haha i completely took that the wrong way.
anyway, sounds awesome. would love to see a tenkeyless bag in digi camo, same with a poker/hhkb bag. if they have a compartment for a mouse/detachable USB cable that'd be great too

Too many pockets is my middle name, i plan on making at least one larger sized pocket detachable. If you want, we make bags that fold into vests too. Well their mainly for guns(holds your gun, then you take it out and wear the bag as a reflective vest with tons of pockets for bullets and hunting stuff). I'm sure a keyboard is important as a gun to some people lol.
As for a laptop and keyboard case all in one, i'm currently talking it over with someone right now who wants to retail. As it seems more people would be interested in just that, a two-in-one. Which brings my multi-board Satchel design to be looking the best for storing up to 2 keyboards and a full sized laptop with accessories. Aluminum poker? Like as in your poker has an aluminum chassis? That's sweet, but yes if people are going to want a laptop and keyboard in 1 protective bag with protective compartments it will happen. We just got a whole bunch of seatbelt webbing in today (we make seatbelts for Chevy) and i was thinking of making the straps with padded seatbelts.
The overall design is going to end up being more handyman/tinker looking then modern and sleek i figure. Although a bag in full digital camo is very easy to do. Regardless, i think you guys will see customized bags with a geekhack logo (figuring the owner of the website would be fine with that) sooner then you think.

I think Pics of your prototypes may drum up a lot of interest.

Pictures would be great, am potentially interested :)

I should have a rough prototype on a blank design done within a week, with pictures of different textiles & fabrics.
My HHKP2 should be at my door any minute now, i'm giddy like a school girl.

with a side compartment for a keycap puller and mouse.

Do you have any mock-ups or anything? I'd like a better idea of exactly what this would/ could look like.
This sounds so awesome, I am definitely interested in a keyboard/mouse bag with an insane amount of pockets/ features. Maybe waterproof? (I love my 4 year old REload bag though its really beat these days)
I don't even really know what exactly to ask for because the idea of a completely custom bag made by a community member just kind of blew my mind with the possibilities.
Regardless I'm down for a GH logo (not sure about permission but ask iMav)
