Title: How to change my win7 keyboard layout to dvorak
Post by: twilek on Thu, 12 April 2012, 11:37:08
Hi, you see I'm really new to keyboards and as you would guess I'm very used to the qwerty layout. It would be nice if I were layout "bilingual" but either way it would be excellent if someone could tell me how to transfer my qwerty layout to the dvorak layout. Also I would be much obliged if someone also told me how to do this system wide. I currently run ubuntu so it's easier to change to dvorak like that. Also if someone could tell me a program or website where I could learn how to type in dvorak that would be great.

While you're at it you might want to consider the Colemak (http://colemak.com/) keyboard layout instead.

I also almost switched to Dvorak, then I found out about Colemak and switched to that instead.

You'll find lots of information on that site, and also in this very subforum.

Gives a good introduction to the layout and after finishing the lessons your fingers will have the layout memorized.

I almost switched to colemak, but decided, I preferred Dvorak's philosophy more. At the moment, though, my windows keyboard is in QWERTY, as it only gets used for gaming and typing URLs.

Make a note of the key combination you use to switch between layouts, as it was very useful to me when I learned.
