Title: Is bottoming out bad for keyboard?
Post by: Crake on Sun, 15 April 2012, 12:32:34
I tried a black cherry switch keyboard, Mionix, and liked the feel but I bottomed out a lot, especially the spacebar. I am not a touch typist and have  heavy touch so I would likely bottom out a blue switch too.

Is bottoming out bad for the keyboard?  Will it wear it down faster? For comparison, I used a Dell rubber dome keyboard, that came with a computer, for about 8 years and it is still going.

Nope, bottoming out isnt bad for the keyboard.
Its really normal to bottom out.

You are just banging the keycap against the top of the switch.

I believe during conception, it was considered as an intended thing.

Yes. If you bottom out frequently, the keyboards can only used for 15-18 years instead of 20-25 years as expected.
It's a pity your grand children will not be able to use your keyboard.
