Title: Minnesota GH Meet Up - MAY 8TH 2012 6PM at 3 Squares Restaurant
Post by: inlikeflynn on Mon, 16 April 2012, 06:15:10: Hello fellow Minnesota Geekhack people! A few of us have been chatting about getting together and figured we'd offer an invite to any other MN people lurking out there.

When: MAY 8TH 2012 6PM
Where: Maple Grove at 3 Squares Restaurant
3 Squares Restaurant
12690 Arbor Lakes Parkway
Maple Grove MN, 55369

Bring any sort of keyboards & keycaps that you have for others to try and of course show off any cool things u may have

People and keyboards/keycaps that are confirmed attending:
-inlikeflynn - FILCO browns, G80-1800 vintage black, Red Alert/Ragnarok/Cherry Beige DS's, GH keys if anyone needs them
-The_Ed - G81 mod
-Son of Gnome - filco with browns and custom key caps
-placebo guy - Topre 55G
-lysol (tentative)
-Phil21 (tentative)

Please post ideas/thoughts/discussions in this thread so that anyone in MN can bee involved in this meet up.

Both Claddagh's & 3Squares are also restaurants, so this wouldn't be an issue

yea that place is good as well. Only mentioned Claddagh's as i've had other engineer/geek gatherings there and they just hide us in the back. Its also louder there so won't have nobody complain about our damm clicky keyboards

I suppose the keyboard thieves now know where we are planning to meet, and perhaps will try to infiltrate us!

I think the threat is mostly from within - and all of us will be coming armed with deadly weapons we can beat you with. :)

Extremely common in suburban Minnesota. LOL I don't know, I'm not from Minnesota but then again, I don't think there even is such a thing as keyboard thefts. But this is the first public-announced GH meet so you guys be careful nonetheless.

Yes, biggest threat is from within. Use your keyboard as a weapon if you have to!

Yea, I don't get it either. Pretty much everyone who would go knows what every switch feels like, so that's out, and if you MUST see another keyboard, there's hundreds of pics posted.. So what exactly does the meet accomplish??

Not really true. I've only tried two switches and I'm sure I'm not alone. It'd be kind of pointless for someone who has tried nearly every switch to go; as for the rest of us, it's an opportunity to try out new switches without having to buy the keyboard.

Once people find out your house number they'll pound on your door day and night for one of those keycaps.

Edit: At that point you should consider investing in a keycap gun to shoot them in the cojones with the keycaps they so desire.

Edit2: These keycaps would make excellent projectiles. Windows key of death/testicular pain.

Looks like others have said they have Red's and i'll be bringing a Black board with as well. I haven't tried Clear's myself so that would be a nice one to try

Looks like the rollback ate The_Ed's post, but i'm sure that G81 mod would be interesting. Any sort of mods are interesting to see. Go ahead and bring anything you are wanting to sell/trade. yea I have no idea how much someone might pay for that sort of mod, considering it becomes lighter than RED's keyboard, but its still MY switches...

It's a brand new G81-8000HPBUS-2 and all I've done to it at this point is strip the doubleshots from it. I have 2 new 104 sets of lasered POM so I could put one of those sets on it.

Where are all of these huge fucking flies coming from down here?! It's like a whole nest of them just hatched (fully grown) down here! I keep killing them but their numbers keep multiplying every few hours!

At least the huge spiders are staying on the other side of the door today... We have to lay out those mouse/rat gluetraps to catch hundreds of those bastards... It's fun to freeze them with canned air when they piss me off.

Edit: I've got a pile of bloody kleenex's FULL of dead flies on my desk... I wonder if that's my blood...

Edit: Is there a fly nest in the basement walls?! Were the spiders holding them back?! They're like Sammael (from hellboy)! Kill one and a ****load more shall arise! Is there something dead in here?!

Post by: The_Ed on Thu, 26 April 2012, 02:45:33: The G81 mod is going smoothly. I developed a WAAAY easier way that involves one pliers, one 1.4mm flathead jewelers, and one flashlight. The stem and spring come out WITHOUT having to remove the switch from the plate. It's easy but still time consuming and tedious. I hope someone buys it from me after all this work... The springs in a G81 are a lot smaller than in a G80. What do I do with them after this?

Edit: It is done... My neck hurts...

Post by: The_Ed on Fri, 27 April 2012, 05:41:53: I put a new set of lasered POM on the G81. I tested all the keys in AquaKeyTest and it passed. It looks like it has 2key rollover. The keys are so light that they actuate when I rest my hand on the keyboard... The actuation point seems to be shallower too. I have the cherry software disc and manual to program the keyboard's keys and cardreader. That means macros and custom layouts are natively supported. It will probably have a $75 minimum price since everything is brand new.

Somebody better bring a laptop or something so we can type-test the keyboards being brought.
