Title: I love buckling spring and cannot lie
Post by: bazemk1979 on Fri, 20 April 2012, 02:25:44
not sure why, but I cannot lie... I just do, and even for some the size and design might be dinosaur alike, to me its the only desired keyboard out there. Hail to IBM and Unicomp!

Nothing wrong with that. They are some of the best keyboards out there. You tried a model F yet?

I wish they made a backlit buckling spring.

I am planning on buying one from Unicomp soon.  I am just waiting to see what they release under their *Small Batch Limited Editons* link first, though...

I love the look of that 122...such a battleship of a keyboard.

I subscribe to your school of thought.

Currently own two Model M's (one bolt modded by me, will do the other sometime). I have a Wildcat board on the way from Unicomp too. Still to acquire are a SSK and a 122 battleship :-)

There were data entry 122-keys, but they are rare enough.

There were different configurations of the 122-key for IBM's 5250 (for midrange systems like the AS/400) and 3270 (for mainframe systems like the System 370/390) terminals.

True, I think its about 8lbs or something, probably as heavy as my Lexmark 122

We've got a few still in daily use. :) Both versions, I keep finding them strewn across our building hooked to random systems here and there. Some missing keys, but functional none the less. My coworkers were giving me funny looks today as I was flipping each keyboard over looking at model numbers and serials. :) We're getting ready to do a purge so I'm getting prepared. Woo!

Lucky you! My workplace is only 9 years old so unfortunately not old enough to have any Model Ms lying around. Make sure you post here what you eventually get :-)

If you want a Model M, get a Model M. There are a dozen on ebay at any given time.

The Model Fs are the treasures.

Oh I will, but I should post a caveat.... Soon to my company could mean tomorrow or in another 3 years. We move at the pace of a 1984 Volvo 240D stuck in 2nd gear going up hill.

This is true, but for those of us far away from the US shipping is often a killer on what would otherwise be a good deal. I do love buckling spring boards, but I still like to get things for a good price where possible :-)

I saw the ebay seller sold 10 Lexmarks so far, last time he had 9 sold, let me check my magic 8 ball.....  you bought one!!!!!! Congrats, you will like it

You just can't ship a keyboard from the US to anywhere down under for less than $50

I wish it weren't so, but you are about as far from Atlanta, Georgia, as you can get on the surface of this planet

Haha, busted!

Yeah, looking forward to it. Always wanted one of the 122 key beasts. Given that its new in box I'm quite happy with the total cost too, even considering delivery charges.

Plus, my Unicomp Wildcat board will arrive here on Monday. I'm starting to feel like a proper buckling spring collector- 4 boards and counting :whoo:

I just need to stumble across that mythical forgotten storeroom containing a NIB SSK and an Industrial Model M, and I'll be happy.

I just couldnt pass on this IBM white logo Model M, $60 shipped and this thing is maculate!!!!!!! the seller is not a refurbisher, you can tell when an item was treated properly and with care, especially looking at the cord and the sticker and same goes for the board overall, here is the link  http://www.ebay.com/itm/IBM-Model-M-Keyboard-1391401-Mint-Condition-PS-2-Connector-/190671543982?_trksid=p4340.m185&_trkparms=algo%3DSIC.NPJS%26its%3DI%252BC%26itu%3DUA%26otn%3D5%26pmod%3D280867145111%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D8005540695232982835

That is in fantastic condition- you would think that it must have had a fairly easy life to look that good.

I think it had a real easy life considering was made summer 1988, must of been some sort of an office where typing wasnt required all that much, or maeby they went bankrupt...who knows. I asked the seller to tell me lil bit about it if maeby was his personal board, will let you know when I get an answer from him.
