Title: New to geekhack
Post by: jonnybeantown on Thu, 26 April 2012, 17:42:01
Hey whats up everyone. This being my first post I wanted to say thanks for the wonderful site. There's so much useful information, and the guides are great. I had been doing a lot of research in order to find the right keyboard and I ended up (at first) getting the CM Storm Quickfire Rapid. I really enjoyed typing on it, although I admit I wasn't too fond of the looks in terms of the colors and overdoing of the logos.

I ended up picking up a Filco Majestouch 2 tenkeyless, and boy do I not regret that move. Even though the builds looked and felt the same, the feeling of the cherry blues on the Filco were a lot more tactile and satisfying to type on. Overall the Filco just felt better in quality. Don't get me wrong the Quickfire is still a great board for the money and I highly recommend it. I had never wanted to actually learn how to type properly but after using the Filco, all I want is an excuse to type something. Its like a drug.

Filcos are great.  Another example that not all Costar keyboards are the same.

And you are welcome about the guides....

Yeah I had the impression that the Quickfire was just as good as the Filco in terms of quality because it was a Costar make. Maybe I just got a bad one but the switches felt inconsistent across the whole board. A testament to the 'you get what you pay for' adage i guess. Although I have read people saying the same thing about the Filco keys as well. Luck of the draw maybe

Since they are plate mounted I doubt it is the problem of the boards. It should be the switch it self. By the way, is the cool master blue switches? They take some time to break in from my experience, during that period my Filco Tenkeyless felt inconsistent as well. Some of the key such as the arrows key are still harder to press.

Yeah it's the blues. I'll definitely give it some time to break in and see what happens . Either way both boards are great to type on I just think the filco has a better feel. Maybe it's in my head and I'm turning into a filco fan boy who knows . I'm pretty interested to try out some topre switches now that I've heard those were nice to type on . I got a feeling all my money will be gone soon
