Simple question:

If I were looking for a switch that is more tacile than cherry browns, but non-clicky, what would you recommend?

Try clears(55g) or Ergo clears(50g), which uses a clear switch with the springs from a red, blue, or brown switch.

Clears! I'm in the middle of converting a Filco right now!

Can't decide if I should use clear or grey for spacebar though?

I put some gray springs on blue switches and its really awesome if you Like the heavy switches :D

Hakko 808. Still takes a while though. Kind of relaxing actually, in a weird sort of way. Working on it in my spare time, when I get any that is!

I did a panda/grey for spacebar (black spring, clear stem). Much better than a straight ergo clear for me on that key.

Thanks for the helpful responses.  Where's a good place to get a kb with clears or ergo clears?  I think EK had Leopold clears for a little while but I don't see them listed anymore.

Saturn, you would have to make ergo clears yourself. Regular clears on non POS boards are hard to find. You might want to grab a POS anyway, if it's cheap enough, just to try them. It should be noted that they are hard to find because they are not popular. Most people don't like them.

Shawn o, I like the gray switch under the spacebar, escape, and sometimes enter, but it's fine either way for me.

I thought the standard clears had the same springs as blacks. Is that not the case?

The best soldersuckers are the ones built into an iron, like this http://www.mpja.com/40-Watt-Desoldering-Iron/productinfo/16922+TL/

Works like a dream. You just put it on top of the solder joint so that the component lead actually enters the hole in the iron tip, push the button, and BAM, ALL the solder comes up, leaving the component completely freed.

The clear springs are a tiny bit stiffer feeling to me than black springs. You can dig through the following to see tests people did on them:

Yeah, it's softest to toughest = red/brown/blue, black, green, clear, grey. Then there is some obscure switch also but no real need to go there as it is unlikely you will encounter them unless you go looking.
