Title: Are Filcos Worth It?
Post by: smknjoe on Thu, 03 May 2012, 11:27:10
They are about $180.00~ from the keyboardco including shipping but not Customs to TX. Anybody here know about how much Customs will be? My Leo was only $120 shipped to the door and the quality is superb.

You could check Amazon and see if it's in stock there (via keyboardco).

If you're in the USA it's very unlikely that you will be paying custom taxes on it ordering from Keyboardco directly. Plus, as stated if you find them on Amazon they're anywhere from $140-$170 depending on which model you want. The stock in Amazon is somewhat limited right now but if you wait till mid-June there will be an inventory update with loads of good options (including a Filco with mx reds!).

And alternatively, you can find a used or mint condition in the classified forums for as low as $120 shipped. I sold mine recently for around that price.

Edit: and yes they're worth it lol! Filcos are at the top of list in terms of quality. While they won't be miles ahead of your leopold, I still prefer Filcos.

Are you interested in fullsize or tenkeyless? If you're after a fullsize WASDkeyboards is a very good, cheaper alternative that is considered to be very comparable to a Filco. The CM storm is also fairly well received so long as the branding doesn't bother you and assuming you're after blue or red switches since I don't think it comes with black or brown ones here yet.

I don't really think you'd notice that much difference in quality, you have to be /very/ discriminating to notice significant differences between these. The Leopold would be a bit different because it uses different stabilizers than the Filco but the WASDkeyboard and CM storm use the same type.

The Quickfires can be had in all 4 major switches at mechanicalkeyboards.com (http://mechanicalkeyboards.com)

Far cheaper deals have been seen on the blue switches at places like NCIX.

Checked Amazon and contacted KBco. They said they would be restocking Amazon soon but not TKL Black Ninja. I didn't ask about the TKL with standard keycaps. I never use the numpad or else I would consider full size boards.

If youre looking for TKL blacks you will easily find one in classified, just post up a WTB thread. They have the lowest resale value and are hard to sell because not many people prefer black switches - not to say that they are bad, they're just the least popular switch option.

You might not find it with ninja keycaps, but I'm sure you'll find a good deal on one.

Really? Damn.. I was really hoping they would be restocking TKL Black Ninjas. I have an Amazon gift card I've been saving to buy one with.

Filcos are not worth $180, but they are certainly worth $120.

To me it seems like the Leopold and Filco are VERY similar and the Leopold is cheaper here in the US at the moment. I know they have different stabilizers and keycaps, but those seem to be the main differences. They are both designed by the same guy, look almost identical, and are made in Taiwan.

That was for the black case and black switches. I didn't ask about other models.

I agree. You would get an awesome deal for blacks

As with most things, there is a point where something no longer becomes proportionally better (price to quality wise)
are filcos better than leopolds? yes.
is it like $50+ better than leopolds? no.
you decide where you want to stop.

Are $500 iPads worth more than $500 Topres?

Yes.

The iPad doesn't have those stupid DIP switches.

Don't get me started. They lock their ***t down too much! I agree otherwise.

Yes they are, and if you're impatient it's worth the extra money to get one from Keyboardco and not Amazon. In my opinion.

That's almost double what a new Leopold costs. Do you think they are built that much better? I'm sure I'll end up getting a Filco, but I think that's a bit much.

Why keyboardco instead of Amazon? Amazon I think has the best return policy anywhere.

I was assuming Amazon was out of stock in the particular keyboard he wanted. Keyboardco is the company amazon gets their Filcos to sell.

That's cool. I thought you meant it was a better idea to buy from Keyboardco overall. Right now Amazon has white tenkeyless with a couple differently switches and black with black switches I think.

Was looking for TKL black switches. I like the blues, but they are still a little light. I want to try blacks and clears. Reds sound too light for me.
