A quick search seems to suggest that there are many model M SSKs to be had on TaoBao even in the sub-$50 range. Has anyone tried getting one that way? Are any/some/many/all of these for real? Are TaoBao agent commissions and shipping fees so exorbitant that even the massive price difference doesn't warrant bringing them over? The enormous price difference just seems...odd, to say the least, even with the difference in countries in mind.
From a couple of minutes of searching using the first TaoBao translator to come up...

how much is shipping to usa? has this website been proven safe to buy from?
-
I don't know anything about the website. It's just that I got sick of running things through Google Translate individually, so I decided to browse on a site with integrated translation. As for shipping, well, that's part of one of the questions in my first post...I know it's pretty brutal, but I'm not sure just how brutal...

i discussed this with several users with taobao experience last time someone pointed this out, and the conclusions seems to be that unless you are in china, speak fluent chinese, know the ways of chinese salvagers, and have a cheap way of getting them back to the US, don't bother.

i bought one from taobao. it's the real deal. mine was in good shape. i'm not from china(from malaysia) btw (used a forwarder). shipping is expensive at 13 dollars for 3kg (keyboard is 2.26kg).

i couldnt get a quote to USA shipping, anybody figured it out?

Just ordered two to be shipped to Denmark. Total was $94.4 so it won't be an earth shattering loss if I'm being screwed. I can let you know how it goes.
-
Well, one month exactly took it before I got it. But now it's here, and it's working to boot. Because of how MisterTao.com works I only got one when one of the dealers didn't have the keyboard as advertised.
The process was fairly involved but manageable. The process is well documented with pictures showing your goods being packaged for shipping to you.
All in all it worked well. The biggest bump on the way was the customs handling here in Denmark. The sender didn't include any documentation with regards to the type of the goods and their value, so I had to provide that myself.
All in all I'm pretty satisfied with it all. The keyboard ended up costing me about $150 which to many of you may seem like a lot, but, being a dane and all, that's just how it is.

Generally, to get SSKs state side it's $175 USD + right now...
so $150 is a bargain.
Cheers,

Assuming 3kg weight... It ain't going to be cheap. $35 a piece for shipping.
Still, for $90 (customs is a ? to me), that isn't bad.

Sweet, thanks for the update peterpop. Glad to hear you got it. I read in another thread someone ordered one got a RD board instead (or something like that) . (x_x)

GB to save on shipping?

GB to save on shipping?
I talked to Lin on Friday, and with her talking to the sellers no one has any SSKs in stock as of yet. But if you shoot her a PM she'll add you to a list to notify when they come in to stock.
Note that I am unsure if a GB will help shipping, as it's purely weight based, and each board is over 2kg! This means that you can expect to pay like $50 for shipping on a $60 board.
Cheers,
