Title: Australia Post wrecked my near mint Focus 2001!
Post by: 486 on Mon, 21 May 2012, 23:03:00
So guys got back from a short holiday to find my almost NIB 2001 at the door and I took it inside and opened it up. I removed it from the pacakaging. ( a hard box and two levels of bubble wrap) and I was shocked. The plastic cover (also ANIB with no scratches) was almost split in half. I looked at the auction page just incase I had missed this oblivious crack but in the picture it was perfect . URL for the auction: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Focus-Electronic-FK-2001-keyboard-cover-MINT-CONDITION-alps-fk-2001-fk2001-/160795942610?pt=AU_Input_Peripherals&hash=item25702f5ed2
Considering I paid about $60 for this , it is really sad. It is not the seller's fault. I had a look at the wrapping and box and sure enough there was a fairly large hole in it. Aus post must have done this. I used registered post so It is insured up to $100 and I will make a complain about this. Also has anyone got a spare cover in near mint cond. that they would like to sell me? Also I live in Australia so postage may be expensive if it is from the US. Here are some pics:

Damn that sucks, at least you're covered with registered post for damages, doesn't make finding a new one any easier though.  Aus post are full of fail, I cross fingers every time I have a group buy shipped here now after having a couple go missing in the past.  I had some bike parts shipped here from Ireland the other week and the box looked as if it had been run over then left out in the rain as it didn't really resemble a box anymore.

YES, Australia Post is plainly horrible when it comes to delivering large objects.  The smaller stuff it gets through unscathed, but any weird shaped, large items will get kicked, smashed and booted about by them, if it's not insured.  The insured stuff is generally recorded and looked after, but you still need to wait for more than 3 months to get a cheque from AusPOST for smashing your item.

I always get insurance because of what we are dealing with here, uncaring, low-paid workers who really hate their jobs.  Hence they will take out their frustrations on your recently bought items.

I have a nice cover, but I live near Atlanta, Georgia, which is about as far away from Australia as you can get, on this planet, anyway.

Shipping alone would be nearly what you paid for the whole rig. Nice item, is the board itself unscathed?

I cleaned it up and no damage to the keyboard. ASide from the cover, the keyboard is in perfect shape and looks like it came out of the box yesterday. The keys are not shiny at all and were very fresh to type on. Fohat, I may take you up on that cover if one does not appear soon in Australia. How much do you want for it? and how much would postage be to 4152, Brisbane Australia?
But as elrick says it takes 3 months for the money to be recieved by the recipient. From now on, anything that is the value is worth over $50, I will pay the extra $2 to insure the item. Albiet the cover is cracked, the 'board is worth the trouble and $62 because it has really nice complicated white alps. It is from October '91. It feels alot harder than my constantly used complicated blue alps keyboard. I may have to (god forbid)ripometer it.
