Aren't these going to be for sale at EK very soon? They are blowing out everything else for $89 right now.

Yeah I think so that's why I'm gonna wait.
-
I haven't seen anything about EK getting them. Where did you guys see that?
-
Why else would they be having a sale right around the time a new model came out?
-
Price drop

Final price drop

PM sent.
-
price lowered, this is basically at cost guys.

Just because EK is blowing stuff out doesn't mean they are going to carry it. Another possibility is they are going to drop the Leopold brand and stick to Realforce/HHKB. The environment is much different than what it was back in 2nd quarter 2011 - too much competition with thin profit margins.
That post confuses the hell out of me. As for this model, EK doesn't sell it, and thus it's an unfair comparison (500 series vs. 700 series). That being said, sadly the market has changed and prices are being driven down by the likes of CM and Rosewill. I wish the OP best of luck with the sale, but with EK selling similar boards for $50 less, it's going to be tough going IMO.
Cheers,

??? the model being sold by OP is a different model than the one being sold by EK... the way you're saying it, why not compare them to Filcos as well?

Did you not actually read my post at all? I said quite clearly "As for this model, EK doesn't sell it, and thus it's an unfair comparison (500 series vs. 700 series).," so what is your point exactly? The point in my OP is that a similar product is being sold for $50 less. It isn't clear what the 700 series has over the 500 series, and thus I (and others) are questioning why this board is $130 vs. the $89 for a similar product. Google is useless for finding out the differences between the two.

there is no 500 series wtf are you talking about... the model being sold by EK is the 200. also it is VERY clear what the 700 series has over the 200 series. you just don't know what to search. and the leopold is a VERY similar product vs the filco so...

Guys, becareful with your posts. The Mods are watchinggggg....
So let me clear up some information for you guys. I'm not a big Leopold person, but I do have some more factual information than what I'm seeing above.
The 700 series Leopolds, are the new models currently available in Korea. It's speculated that EK is discounting their current Leopolds (both 200 series and 500 series; yes there is a 500 series, it's the full sized keyboards) to make room for the new 700 series Leopolds. Once again, this is just speculation, there is no official announcement from EK that I'm aware of.
As far as the differences go between the 700 vs. 200 series (both are 87-key units), the 700 series is a newer model. Hence a slightly newer design, newer keyboard, and overall understood to be 'better' in general. The 700 series also comes standard with PBT keycaps versus the 200 series, which comes with ABS (really crappy) keycaps. Alone, the PBT keycaps is probably worth $30-45. A little bit of research, and you would have found this link in our main forum: http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?25649-FC700R-Leopold-TKL-new-details
So word from the wise, as always please do your research before making assumptions or bad generalizations =) We don't want people reading this thread and getting misinformed or confused about what's being sold here.

This is useful information. DanGWanG, I guess my Google skills aren't up to snuff today, I would have that such information would have come up in a search of Leopold 700. Anyways, I understand what makes this board more special. AFAIK, I didn't break any rules in my posts; there was no flaming or insults (I deleted the only grey area statement), and I was in fact was trying to stop the spread of bad information, instead getting what was necessary to understand the differences between the easily accessible leopolds from EK, and the product being sold here, because the first page of this thread was a lot of: "Y u get this when EK sell $89 Leopold KB?", and nobody seemed to be able to come up with a good answer. But hey, sorry I missed the GH article with the appropriate information in it. Anyways, anybody who reads this thread should not be informed, and that's what it needed.

...and the leopold is a VERY similar product vs the filco so...
Just wanted to make a correction on this. The term 'VERY similiar' might be different for you, but to me, Leopolds and Filcos are not by any means 'VERY' similar. Maybe just slightly similar.
Some differences between the two:
- Leopold uses non-standard spacebar stems. This means that some of the spacebars from SP and KBC will not fit. Especially the 500 series, no spacebars fit that ****.
- Leopold uses LEDs on the Caps Lock and Scroll Lock switches. Whereas Filco has dedicated LEDs underneath the Pause/Scroll Lock/Prt Sc keys.
- Leopold uses a different case design. They're more rounded on the edges, but also, you can't use custom cases (i.e. ones designed for Filcos; Litster's case, vortex case coming out, etc.) unless it was designed for Leopold
- Leopold has a detachable USB cable, Filco doesn't.
- Leopold doesn't use Costar stabilizers, which is the preferred stabilizer here on the community.
Some similarities:
- They offer 87 and 104 key layouts
- They're both Cherry MX based
- They aesthetically 'look and feel' similar, but many keyboards have this new universal look and feel
I'm sure there are more subtle differences that I'm not aware of, but just wanted to be clear on what is similar and what is not. If you're looking for a keyboard VERY SIMILAR to the Filco, you can research PLUs, CM Storm Quickfires, and the new keyboard offered by qtan.

Thanks for clearing that up and don't worry Dan was joking about the mods watching lol. geekhack is lax, the moderation is only for the trolls/haters.

I have an FC700R... and the spacebar still sucks.

And yes, EK will be selling them at a later, undisclosed date. But please stop de-railing this mans FS post.

Yes, buy this keyboard! It is a really good price.
Sorry for the sarcasm about the mods and derail.
