I was watching this listing and it seems it was pulled and the keyboard sold on its own immediately after it was listed according to the seller. Wondering if anyone here got it. =\

Been happening a bunch lately.
And people are STILL driving the prices on these up way too high.

It's called supply vs demand.
-
It was ME :).
-
I've seen several complete setups sell for $50 or so on ebay recently. They often list $50 shipping since its obviously heavy for the whole unit but I've contacted sellers and told them I only wanted the keyboard and they offered $5 shipping if I was to win the auction.

Thanks, I'll keep this in mind.

Meh, $80 for a keyboard is livable for me, it looks to be in very good shape. I have grown tired of contacting sellers, making offers and being outbid for the past several months. I'm just thrilled I managed to get one finally, and not have to pay over $100.

Yeah I'd pay $80 for a full keyboard with clean Dolch doubleshots, no problem. Enjoy!

It is called the same 5 people bidding each other up blindly and endlessly.
-
Hahah I'm glad it was under a 100 I hit him up for 50 (yeah right.) especially since I was sure a bunch of you probably did the same thing... Keep hype alive!
-
True, the other unit I bid on earlier ended at $130 or something today. LOL.
-
Can't wait for the repro Dolch set ;)
-
I want my moogle!
-
True, the repro set might help people stop paying so much for them if they can get a very similar set for a lower price.

hmm.. seem that you and I was bidding the same item? Dolch Pac 486, right?
-
I stopped at $65, so I didn't drive the price up by more than a dollar or 2. I almost bid again, but then I saw the one I bought, I am glad I looked at listings again first.

I hope so. :D

So you are the guy who bought the keyboard mentioned in OP, right?
-
Yes.
-
Yes.
*High Five*
Same model as what I have, do consider using the keyboard! Trackpoint isn't the greatest though.
-
How badly do you want a Dolch? You have one hour to figure that out....

Tried to snipe it but was 1s too slow. =\
-
Yes.
Congrats, I think I'm the first one contacts him last night, but a little hesitation makes me miss it :-<. I was focusing on the Pac 486 at that time :-<.
-
I will be keeping the board for use as well, but I intend to drop it into a normal 1800 case and do not care at all to loose the trackpoint. I may or may not swap out the controller board with a USB one I have. Not sure if it's compatible 100%, if not then I will just replace the cable with a standard PS/2.
-
Asked another seller to part with just the board but they denied me. =\

Because after selling you the keyboard, it will be very hard to sell the remaining thing :-<.
-
Right, which is why I didn't try to contact the other sellers before; a strategy that worked for someone else and one that you tried as well.
-
Yeah, I try another seller as well, but it doesn't work at all. The previous seller accepted to part with because no one bidded on his item and it was malfunction.
-
The craze for Dolch keycaps will die off when the imitation GB is done. So, I would just relax and save your money.
-
Unless you are also at least interested in the keyboard, or an entire unit if can't get separate I would wholly agree... or you are like me and can't stand SP profile. I wish we would also pool and get new molds done for the R4, it is too sharp angled and feels bad. The other rows are ok I suppose.
-
True. TBH, I can't stand most of SP's work. I have yet to see a set that impresses me. When you look at real cherry keycaps, the bottom edge corners are nice and sharp. SP's are oddly rounded. Not impressed, really. I will probably pick up a couple more Dolch units here and there, and just pack them away like baseball cards.
-
I really like the Cherry profile and the scooped F and J keys. I have a couple of white on black sets stored for the future already. I'd like a larger board with PCB mounted blues as well.
-
Discontinuing doubleshots is the worst thing Cherry ever did. I understand they did it to keep their margins healthy, as it was beginning to be a loss leader for them, but raising price didn't occur to them? I know many would have been more than happy to pay larger price premium over lasered models. Or even sell them as an upgrade option as aftermarket... Idiots.
-
If there was a competent company that could replicate the quality of original cherry caps, that wouldn't be an issue.... sadly, there isn't such a company.

Hmm, don't toss the trackpoint, I may want it. :)
-
No problem. I will try and remember to see if you still want it once it arrives.

Not lately, it's been going on for years which is why you see so many sold without keyboards. A Dolch PAC-60 keyboard is superior to most of the modern junk sold today, unless all you care about is NKRO tests and pokemon caps. I can't see how anyone can say they are worth less than the going $100 rate for a decent mechanical board. And they are tough to find. PAC-61-64's are a bit easier to come across but those are just as functional minus the PS2 cable. Type on one for a while and see how you like it. The only recommendation I could make for improvements on them is to add rubber feet or put them on a mat because they like to slide.

Couldn't agree more. The quality of these boards is superior, and people will usually try to lowball you on them. I sold 2 boards so far, but I don't think either party plan to actually use the boards other than farming the caps and switches from them, sadly. :(
On the rubber feet issue; They actually do have rubber feet, but people mostly don't understand how to remove them properly when opening the keyboard case, and ripping them clean off.
Unless you are referring to hardened rubber feet, which a lot of them have, causing them to lose their grip. The one I have currently, I was lucky enough to find with very good condition.
-
Damn it! AGAIN. Who got the 2x listing??

They come with rubber feet originally, but I suppose that they could fall off. If a PAC 61..64 then you also have to remove them to get to the screws to open the case and attach the PS/2 cable.
BTW, this was written on a Dolch keyboard. It has been my "daily driver" for most of the time since summer of 2010 when I got it.

Damn, missed that one too. =\
-
Looking forward to tomorrow, damn no mail holiday...

Finally got my dolch set!

Finally got my dolch set!
Interesting, how much did you offer?
-
Nice, and grats. Now store it away like baseball cards and never touch them again, unless you use a Leopold-like keyboard condom :)
It was me

We definitely went on a bidding war that last minute. Congrats!
-

Got both for $160 shipped.
-
I almost took it out from under you ;)
-
I almost took it out from under you ;)
Lol so you were the one! I'm glad the seller honored our agreement and didn't ask me for more.
-
Yup, always gotta try... I hate being patient
Don't hoard! If you don't have plans for the second you should put it up in the classiieds and share the wealth with another GHer instead
-
And don't trash the keyboards even if you do decide to hoard the caps LOL. Some people do really like 1800s.
I hate waiting, post carrier needs to come right now to bring me my 1813HFU and my 5181, vintage blues FTW!
-
I have seen claims by people that vintage MX Blue switches would be smoother than new switches.
I wouldn't know ... as all my blue switches are vintage.
-
Probably Placebo. especially since post of these boards are hardly even touched...
-
You guys missed this one?

I saw it and was watching it. Decided not to go for it. I'm done with these for now. They've been blown out of proportion at this point.
-
plus from the pics, looks like those keys have some shine on them.

I don't know about MX blues but it's definitely true with vintage/worn MX Browns vs brand new MX browns. It's an obvious difference my brand new Ducky with browns vs my roommate's years old Zowie Celeritas and yet again more noticeable on my much older MX SPOS.
-
I just don't think it's "vintage" so much as really worn keyboards feel different.
but I have a bag of old blues and blacks, so I'll just have to see for myself.
also 120 shipped for one of these is disgusting...
-
Considering a current production G80-1800 with lasered keycaps is a similar price retail... and it's hard to find them with not blacks. I would say it's hitting the upper limit on a fair price for it though.
There are subtle difference in some vintage switch. Cherry has made some small change in spring weight and some other tiny details over the decades. I had some old blues from late 80's that had a black instead of clear click part of the stem that seemed to be less frictiony for instance. I have confirmed that some very old blacks have a slightly lighter spring and less of an angle on the legs that hit the crosspoint. They are tiny differences and probably only noticeable for those that look for them. The difference in feel is very subtle and could be hard to notice side by side on same board.
Oh, and by the way the Dolch case on mine a couple of you were interested in arrived with a large all the way through crack under the arrows, so I just tossed it.
-
So do G80-1800HFXs have older blues? How about those black assemblies I got?
Ooh 115 for shipping. God this whole thing is making me hate ebay sellers so much.

Haven't seen this one before, don't think it's a cherry keyboard though....
-
Very cool even if not MX, briefcase pc is just awesome. If it was... holy f*ck because 1.25 modifiers. Still very likely Cherry, just with ML instead. Looks an awful lot like some model of g86 LPOS line.
