Title: Someone put White Alps switches in a Leopold?
Post by: megnin on Tue, 29 May 2012, 06:54:56
I've been staring at these pictures for two weeks.  It's amazing that all the switches and stabilizers seem to fit.  This would be awesome.  I really want a Filco with White Alps now.

FC200R Lite - How would it compare with a Filco Zero?  I have been hoping to find a Filco Zero, but since that is nearly impossible and if the FC200R Lite is nearly as good it might be worth a look.  I've got a Ducky DK1087 with Green Alps and I like it a lot.

Someone was doing an IC for these a while back but he was told(I don't know by whom) that they were Type II switches and he didn't want to do it anymore but that is a Type I switch plate in the picture isn't it?  If it is of good quality I would be interested in one or two.

EDIT with old thread: http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?29319-Can-anyone-tell-me-anything-about-the-Leopold-FC200R-Lite-Alps

Apparently they are cheaply made enough that the keys aren't even designed to safely be removed.

To be fair, In my experience ALPS keycaps are hard to remove under good conditions.

They're just so snug!

I might be a little biased as an old white ALPS was my first mech board, and i would have been not only inexperienced but pretty damn paranoid of breaking it.

If you get a couple of screwdrivers under each side you can pop them off fairly easily ghetto-style but you have to torque them a lot more than an M.

Don't know how they compare to cherries.

They sure are a lot more hard to take off than cherry switch though  have had a friend pull out a mx stem taking off a cap which in my experience has  happened with an alps.
