Title: Annoying Obligatory Newb Thread.
Post by: gr0undzer0 on Thu, 31 May 2012, 12:06:14
I'll make this sweet and simple.

I want to get into custom keyboards but I want to start slow.
What I'm looking for:

minimal like kbt pure accept with maybe only a few lights
cherry mx blues
the ability to change switches without solder. ( want to make the keyboard black and the wsad red)
pretty universal caps so I have a good selection of caps to choose from.

Bonus: I really love caps that have a few keys with printing on the front side. (choco mini is gorgeous to me)

I realize this may not be   feasible without building my own keyboard from kit but please advise.

You could go for a Poker with blues. It's fairly cheap (around $100), but it seems like they're on back order from most vendors for the moment.

Poker it is for you. You can change the springs and stems on all keys without LEDs without soldering.

There are a few different shipments of them coming in, and the relevant threads can be found in Group Buys, Classifieds or the Vendor forums. Check them all for the options you want and to see if they have stock left.

Welcome to GH.

Welcome to Geekhack and I agree that a Poker sounds best for what you're looking for.

Now I just have to find a vendor! Judging from a quick glance this will not be an easy task.

Wow - they must have sold out fast!

Edit: you could get one with blacks from Elite (http://www.vendio.com/stores/E-sports-Gaming-equipments/item/shop-mechanical-keyboard-by-br/kbc-poker-40-mechanical-gaming/lid=26872245) and swap the switches.

Or post a "WTB" in the Classifieds Forum.

Edit 2: Update:

Mechanicalkeyboards.com says they'll have them soon (http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?31405-Vortex-Pure-Poker-and-Race/page3).
