Title: First Mechanical Keyboard. Black or Red switch. Back-light Illumination. $200 limit
Post by: Harrison1087 on Fri, 01 June 2012, 03:45:47
Hello I currently use a Razor Lycosa. Recently it has fallen apart on me. I loved the back light Illumination for gaming at night. I would like to buy a mechanical keyboard this time around though. I mostly game (star-craft 2). And i type rather hard so i'm thinking black or red switch is best. I live in America.
What I am looking for is...

- Back light Illumination of Blue

- Smaller than 19Inches long

- Black or red Switches

- Built to last

- Black Keyboard

Thank you for your time, I truly appreciate any and all advice as I have no idea where to begin or look for with Mechanical keyboards.

Deck or ducky shine?

But the most common advice around here is to drop the backlight requirement and get a filco.

Or go for a slightly different layout and pick a Vortex Race, if you can find them.

Deck is going to be the best option you have for quality and keeping under 200. It comes in a black switch and meets your size requirement, though it does have a larger footprint than Filco or leopold. The one killer is the elfin font on they keys, but if you can get past that...

They also have a tenkeyless-like board (smaller form factor) that's really heavy duty and is around 120.

I say forget the back light and get a high quality board. I talked one of my friends into skipping the black widow ultimate, and getting a filco, and he couldn't be happier with the filco. You get used to not having a back light anyways.
