I want to get one of my friends a mechanical keyboard. He is a near pro FPS gamer, and prefers slim keys. It was my preference for fps gaming for a while too, until I got my poker.
Anyways, is this a good price for the G84-4110? I usually see them around for like $80ish dollars. same does for the ones with the little space bar.

G84 does not have mechanical switches, I believe the G80's go for $80 ish and you can find them much cheaper, the G80's are the only mechanical ones from cherry made family boards

If your friend likes slim profiles, he might like the Cherry G80-3800. It's around the same price, and mechanical.
-
I thought these had Cherry MLs, mechanical, but not a favorite of many geekhackers for various reasons.

I have one new-in-box, and I paid $40. So I dunno how used that one is, but I think it's an ok price judging from the photo. It takes a bit to get used to typing on the low profile keys. Kind of uncomfortable after long periods of typing.
Good for a mechanical keyboard on the go. It's quite portable.

These use Cherry ML switches, and are mechanical, low-profile, tactile switches:

Yeah, I can confirm that too. Although the keyboard itself isn't very comfortable.. bwin ipad (http://www.pokernews.com/bwin-poker/)

If your friend likes slim keys, how about the Topre HE0100? I like slim keys which is why I got it, love it for gaming (The JP layout and PS/2 port may be a problem for your friend though). There's a used one going on Taobao right now for 800RMB too, pretty much the cheapest topre you'll be able to find.
Better yet, if your friend has been using scissor switches all this time, the Topre will feel very similar, just much better.

I paid about $20 for mine, but it has dyesub PBT keys (So they're beige).
Also, it's great if you don't like key travel. I use it all the time when I take my laptop travelling. The biggest issue is awful key rollover and it does tend to bind a bit if you hit off axis.

Awful key rollover? I'm using it with a bluecube USB converter right now and I'm getting 5KRO which is the bluecube's limit.

The build quality is not terribly well regarded. But I think they probably work. I wouldn't recommend them normally, but I definitely would over G84s.

G80 is a better choice than G84 for sure! bwin bonus 50 (http://www.pokernews.com/bwin-poker/)
