I have a broken SSK, too, but I'm not that auction holder. A number of keys are stiff, z and x don't work at all. Anyone want to take it off my hands for $50 shipped CONUS please PM.

Are they fixable?

Probably. It depends on the type of damage, but the internal frame and spring & hammer assemblies can be ordered from Unicomp. I don't know about the membrane or PCB.

unicomp does _not_ sell the membrane or PCB (the former i've confirmed with them, the latter i'm guessing, as they have a new controller board they use now that wouldn't work with the SSK matrix). they also don't sell the rubber layer or cover sets. so basically, it may not be, easily anyway.

Just get a working full size and swap the guts. The keys not working could be something as simple as the spring or hammer being out of place.

it would be a cool learning experience, but I just spent some cash on a board and my accountant (Read: Wife) wouldn't be to happy about that.

You won't get the embedded numpad anymore, though :o

how about the fullsize boards, you can always get membrane or PCB replacement in case something goes wrong with the bolt mod right? I'm talking of the 101 boards.

Isn't that dependent on the controller? If you swapped the membrane and hammers only, wouldn't it be fine? Who uses the embedded pad anyway...

the bigger issue is that the pinout of the ssk matrix is different than the pinout of the 101 matrix. further, the controller for the 101 won't necessarily cleanly mount on in the ssk case, and takes a full-size membrane pinout

basically, mixing and matching is difficult, and going wholesale 101 is also tricky. basically, membrane and controller issues can be tricky. hammer issues are easy, sure, until you realize that you have to bolt-mod just to get at those.

You can probably buy the controller for the SSK from Unicomp. Repair the PCB yourself or swap one from a full-size.

I pulled a controller from a full-sized Model M, placed it into an SSK. Worked fine.

Can't you just wire a Teensy directly to the matrix? Those connectors between the membrane and PCB don't look that unique.

some guy did do this recently, but imo it looks like a pain, not to mention the cover now has a weird looking holes in it

Just sent a PM if it's still available, might be a good board for parts.

I am typing this on a terminal M-spacesaving with a full 1391401 controller.  Yes, it works- the only thing you lose is the virtual numpad, which I don't think anyone ever uses anyway.
