Title: Mechanical 10-key for cheap?
Post by: pocketdrummer on Fri, 22 June 2012, 17:02:00
I'm planning on getting a CM Storm Quickfire Rapid (brown switch) as soon as they come back in stock (mid July), but I need an accompanying 10-keypad to go on the other side of my mouse (keep the functionality without sacrificing ergonomics). Unfortunately, the only one I can find is the Filco for $65 (which is $15 less than the ENTIRE CM Storm keyboard!).

Does anyone know of an alternative to the Filco 10-keypad? One with MX Brown switches?

(I like parenthesis :P )

Do you really need it to be mechanical :P ?

For the little you'll type on it ^^'

I guess it wouldn't as long as it isn't more than $10 for the membrane type.

Try ebay, sometimes you can find a genovation, goldtouch, kinesis, adesso 220B for really cheap. There are some Alps ones on ebay often too for very cheap, but I forget what they are called right now. Think I found them last time by searching 'mechanical keypad'.

This is the one I got. I didn't find it necessary to get a mechanical one as for a decent one even on eBay I'm seeing them at $30+, and for me that isn't worth it.

That is to say I will use it every once in awhile so a USB keypad that I can plugin is nice to have when I need it, but I could care less if it's mechanical or not since I'll only use it every once in awhile anyway.

This is the one I ordered to accompany my CM Quickfire Rapid Reds (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7069783&CatId=536)

But if you want a mechanical keypad, by all means try to find one for cheap. I just personally didn't find it necessary, but that's my opinion.

The Adesso has PCB mounted blue switches, and feels pretty wobbly. I use mine frequently, and wish it was better.
