Title: Filco shifted pcb/case, keys too close to edge
Post by: bavman on Sat, 23 June 2012, 12:39:20
I have included pictures below as a reference to what I'm talking about as well as a video. The case and the key placement on my filco don't seem to line up perfectly causing the left side to be extremely close to the case and in some cases stops them from working correctly. However on the right side, I have plenty of room between the keys and the case. I don't run into any problems when using the stock caps or my cherry set, but When I use some SP keys, the shift always run into the problem as pushing against the case too hard and causing it to not be able to fully recover from a keystroke. This is easily demonstrated on mine particularly because its a filco with blues. The key will actuate the first time, but if you press it again you will notice there is no click because it has not come up fully from the previous press. I have even included a video to explain this problem better. Any one else have this issue or know how to fix it? I thought about sanding down the side of the key but I don't really want to ruin it, and I don't want it to show either that I sanded the key down

I had the same problem with my MJ1 using any SP keys. It's actually a pretty common problem, and I just used a nail filer to file off just enough for the left sided keys to work properly. You wont ever see that the key has been modified if the key is on the keyboard.

Hmm. Its weird because the caps and control are both SP made yet they both have no problem at all.

For me, it was the ctrl and shift keys from hashbaz's rgby and the rag set that were having problems.

Darn, we'll I'll try a nail file when I'm able and see what will happen.

tolerances on SP's molded keys and filco case clearance often seem to line up in bad ways. a little bit of filing on the key edge usually fixes it right up
