This is the official order thread for Center Stemmed Caps Lock Key with Cherry Legend. That is correct - a stepped caps lock key that will be compatible with Filco/Rosewill/DAS etc. I have worked with SP to design this key, and they have agreed to cover most of the tooling cost and making it available to all furture buys. Both Black and White will be produced, if they hit MOQ of 50.

Legend is from R3 moogle buy and the Cherry legend project

White on Black - Cherry Legend (WFK on NN) Matches Hashbaz Moogle
Black on White - Cherry Legend (NN on GAW) Matches Hashbaz Moogle
Cream on Green - WSYE Legend (WCK on VBQ)

Melissa did warn me that there is a concern the first shot area may interfere slightly with the MX switch (i.e. it wouldn't rest fully on the bottom of the switch), but only by about 0.010". (FYI a grain of salt is about 0.020")

It means this has never been done before, so it may not be 100% perfect. With the tolerance levels she is quoting though, it seems like if it is off, it will be a little more than the width of a hair off.

That's okay. I'm impressed with the length of time on the tooling.

Is that a picture of a cherry capslock key? I ask, because the edges look sharper and more cherry-like than SP.

Yes - the picture is of an actual Cherry key. If anyone has a good picture of a SP key please post it and I will update, but the legend should be very close to the Cherry key.

I believe it is from the black tsangan kits that were run on kbdmania, which used a different legend than the moogle order. I did a significant refinement pass over all the new moogle legends and my caps locks look significantly better. 1391401, can you make another comparison gif with the image in the OP?

Adjusting the legend will introduce more time and money and uncertainty. That said, I'm always happy to have a chance to improve the legends, within reason. Boiler, let me know if you want me to do another pass on the legend in light of the finished moogle keys.

Considering the tooling for this has a more dramatic affect, since mistakes can affect the ability of the key to work in addition to aesthetic issues. Is there going to be a prototype that can be tested by you before the production run is started?

I wish I could say it would be right away, but if you read the OP the Tooling on creating this key will be about 5 more weeks and then production will be another 3-4 weeks.

At least another week or two - SP has a down payment from me and are working on the tooling. Production can not start until the tooling is complete so there is no rush.

Color stated in OP is NN on GAW. It's always been grey. "White" just refers to the Cherry Corp black on white doubleshots it matches.

You can trust that i3oilermaker knows what he is doing. This isn't his first GB.

I will be 3 more weeks until they are done with the tooling and can actually being production. We are look at mid to late Sept. for delivery.

Since we have that time as a luxury, I am going to be adding Boosts Vim key to this buy shortly.

The e part is plausible...the points on the top and bottom would likely not be possible.

You probably already know this, but QWERKeys can do a 2-shot technique with laser infills. This achieves a tri-color effect. They can also do quad-color with 2-shot molding technique and 2-color laser infills.

The erroneous CCnG legend looks like the Caps Lock from the round of black Cherry replica tsangan kits that was run on kbdmania a while ago. It is different than the moogle3 Caps Locks.

The 'White' version is on a Leopold FC500R along side SP "Red Alert 2" key-caps. Of course it doesn't match, but I wanted to get a quick idea of how they fit.

You can see the SP 'Sprue' marks on both the RA and Caps-Lock keys.

The Black version is on a Das Keyboard Professional S with Cherry Double shots. This is currently fitted with non-matching profile Green W-A-S-D keys from Das. So, it's hard to get a good look at how the profile merges in.

I think that the White Caps-Lock might be riding slightly higher than the adjacent Red Alert set. But if so, it's only by a small amount. I'll have to check things out more thoroughly later.

As best as I can tell, the keycap body is bumping into the top of the switch body and preventing the key from fully seating by a small amount. This was about 0.016 (or about 1/64th) inches when I tried it. (The total post height on the switch I used was about 0.142 inches. So, that seems like a relatively small amount).

You can just make out the gap from the attached scan (You can see a little bit of exposed blue post).

I'll have to play around and see if wiggling the cap will seat it any better. But so far it doesn't seem to be a big issue. I only noticed it because I put a straight edge on the key-caps next to it :) .

There never before existed a center-stemmed, stepped caps lock such as this, and this community made it happen. We decided we had a need for it, we wanted it, and we made it happen. I'm just proud I could take part in this by supporting the group buy with my order.

This can now be a part of any future group buy for full keysets, as part of the basic kit, or as an add-on purchase. We just have to drive the continued demand for these keys.

You drill a small hole into the center of the round portion of the bottom half of the switch (the part that goes through the pcb), and use a toothpick to push on the bottom side of the stem while holding the cap in place; this pushes the stem into a fully seated position.

Mine showed up on the 17th, shipped on the 5th. Shawn O's post was on the 13th. And nothing for you yet. Its amazing how much they managed to screw these up for them not to make it 8hrs in 2 weeks :(

If so it might be interesting economically to have an assortment of colors made and then either dye-subbed or laser-etched. And does anyone have a mold for an OEM profile stepped caps-lock key?

We Model M owners need us some stepped caps locks, and are used to dye-subs! You're out of stock and I (for one) need black, white, red and gray.

I'd be interested in a pre-order scenario.
