The M570 is on it's last legs with me. The unifying receiver thing just isn't working for me. I've replaced it once, and it's failing again. Very frustrating when, on fresh batteries, the trackball just stops working.
I've been doing some research, it looks like the M570 is the only wireless trackball out there with the ball for the thumb. I will either have to switch to a mouse, a different kind of trackball, or a WIRE. The wire will be a problem, I'm mobile a lot, and I'd prefer wireless.
Looking for ideas, and I apologize for recommending the M570 to everyone here in other posts. What a turkey this thing is!

I'm considering this:

I think I'm buying another M570. Just isn't a great wireless trackball alternative out there. My mom says that hers works perfect all the time. My son who also uses her computer alot says it works great all the time. I may just have a lemon, and it's a teensy bit possible that they've improved the line in the last couple of years.
I'll fill everyone in once I use it for a week or two, I know you are all sitting on the edge of your seats. :-D
-
my brother has had one for a couple of years and hasn't had connectivity issues. may just be a flakey part.
it does seem to be the only option for a modern thumb trackball with wireless
-
I bought a new M570 yesterday when I was in Best Buy picking "another item" of interest. So far it's flawless. Hoping I was just using a lemon, before. Gotta abuse this one for a few months before we'll know for sure. =-D
There's just nothing else out there close enough to what's important to me in the M570: Wireless & thumb-ball.

That other item of interest is working great so far!
You'll want to put one of these in there:
-
ooohhh...the red ball! Like!
-
Much smoother than the blue pill.

Is that from a regular Trackman Marble?
-
Yup. The dotted red ball has a smoother/harder finish. The sensor on the M570 doesn't seem to care too much what the ball looks like (unlike the marble, which needs the dots). It does change the sensitivity a bit.
I totally wore-out my old non-wheel Marbles, but I kept the balls around.
-
Been using a new M570 for about 5 months now, and it's been golden. No issues. Whew!
-
Groovy! I was thinking about picking up another. One of mine does do some weird things sometimes, but the receiver was rather far from the trackball. I began to realize it was my body position that was affecting the performance.
-
I have owned my M570 for about 6 months, no issues.

Hit up Logitech customer support.. They are amazing and will most likely ship you a new one free of charge.. Even if you want something different, might as well get something for free and put it up on ebay.

He already sorted it out, I believe. :)
I love my M570 <3

Same, high five!

Still going strong, glad I stayed with the M570!

i'm on my third or fourth warranty replacement for an mx518, now a g500. can you just get another replacement? yeah, it's pretty lame that these things die after a year, but at least they've got the mouse-for-life program going.

i'm on my third or fourth warranty replacement for an mx518,
I lost my receipt for my MX518 so ended up with having to put up with a semi dead one for life :( It disconnects every 5 mins

just sayin', if you can call them up and ask to e-mail them a digital proof of purchase they'll send you a new one, so maybe you didn't lose your receipt after all :)
although, the first time i don't think i had to give them anything other than the numbers off of the mouse / tag on the cable.
-
I spoke to their help desk type thing about what I could do and they said without the receipt I was basically out of luck.

Get a wired trackball. The Logitech Marble and the Kensington Orbit are my favorites. I am a FPS gamer and I love them dearly (I even splatter painted my Marble). I hated the M570. I could not aim with it at all, and my Call of Duty and Unreal Tournament skills suffered. There aren't any good thumb trackballs that are wired anymore.
-
Why would they do that when they already stated theirs is working fine now and they are glad they stuck with it? :P I love mine and love the fact it's wireless.
-
I didn't see the other part. I personally don't like the M570 since the thumb trackballs aren't for gaming.

since the thumb trackballs aren't for gaming.
Uh yeah... add MX blues and who knows what else to that list... thing is, plenty of people game on MX blues, and I use nothing but my TrackMan wheel for everything.
-
I used to do the same and often still do, but for fast-paced FPS-type action, I find the thumb-ball a bit too hard to control. I picked up a G500 for that and I have to say...it does help a lot. As for the keyboard, I do game with the Model M sometimes (when I am too lazy to swap it), but I do get into trouble on occasion due to the matrix limitations. :)
-
It's been so long since I used a mouse it would be more of a handicap than any limitations I might run into on the ball. I don't know that I've run into any, mind you.
