Title: Getting new keyboard
Post by: byteninja2 on Fri, 20 July 2012, 23:15:03
So, I am looking to get a new keyboard, within 2 months.I am on a unlimited budget (well, no gold plated $1000 keyboards, etc).I need a keyboard that is good for typing AND gaming, I game a lot, and am a blogger.I have many hours of research, but I am new to keyboards, so forgive me.I think Cherry MX Brown switches sound like the best switch for what I am doing.I want a backlight, and a usb hub (USB Hub is almost need).I saw the Topre realforce or happy hacker keyboards, but they are nearly $300, but if they are really great keyboards, I will buy one.I am really thinking about the Max Keyboard Nightwawk X8.

You can get the das keyboard for mac, has a usb hub, but only blue switches. They also have brown versions, but they don't have the usb hub. IIRC razer blackwidow ultimate stealth has a usb hub and brown switches, but mentioning razer is not good *looks left and right*. They aren't very durable and break quickly. You can get a usb hub for your desk, and you don't need it on your keyboard, which would make it much easier for you to get your choice. Good luck, and pm me if you have any more questions :)

Didn't know there was a turn around time requirement for the 'community'.

Hasn't even been an hour, late on a Friday night.

you don't have a lot of options for backlit full keyboards at the moment. the ducky shine is most easily available, but they're on the cusp of revamping their lineup (probably for the better). you might want to consider a quickfire rapid for the time being while you wait for more backlit options to come out.

also, just get a 2$ usb hub from monoprice.

Topre's a completely different switch, some people love it some people think meh.  Given the money, you may want to find out if there's someone in your area willing to let you try one out.

WASD has quality boards, I don't like the style.  They don't have backlight yet and they don't have a hub inside.  They are definitely good boards tho.

That Max board is sold under a bajillion names. Same exact case design as several brands, all made by the same place.  iOne if my brain isn't failing me.  I've heard of some happy people w/ that board... also not so happy.

Ducky has backlit boards as well that are nice, no hub tho.

Quiet about the PM thing. What dont you like about the WASD style?I like how you can get the custom keys, but I dont even really care about that.Yup, I do want to try a Topre, nobody round here sells em, though. Are topres good for gaming and typing. What is just the BEST keybaod you could think of.That is for gaming and typing.

I don't like the excess of 'frame' around the keys.  I like the spare Filco style with very little extra hanging off the edges.

As for best keyboards, well... that's all personal preference.  I really like my Filco w/ browns, but I never tried a Topre (and likely never will).  I game and type and its kept me very happy.

So, filco is a good brand. What is the plain newest mech keyboard on the market, with little or no reviews?I might wait and get a Ducky Shiney 2, so I can be one of the first to review it, and use it as my keyboard.
