Is it better than Ducky Shine 1?
-
That depends on what you want i suppose. The 2 has a lot more lighting options where the original had a lot more led/switch combinations. Haven't seen any other major differences.
-
Yeah as above.
As far as I can see from specs the only real difference between the Shine, and the Shine II is as follows:
- Shine II has NKRO via USB
- 3 new lighting effects, including: marquee, reactive and selective
- The 4 'Macro' or shortcut keys no longer have 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x written on them in relation to the repeat rate, just a picture of what the shortcut relates to
and that's about it. IMO if you want one now then go for it, most of the new features except for perhaps the USB NKRO you'll never use or make any difference.

I wonder if they have resolved the problem where the backlighting resets if you reboot the computer? That seems to upset a lot of people.
Also dunno about the rest of the world, but my local reseller in Australia has just listed the Ducky Shine II as being available after 6th September, so if you can wait that long ...
Personally I just got another of the original Ducky Shine while stocks of those are still available.

If they had a white LED option with brown or clear switches I'd think about "upgrading" for the nkro usb and the effects but i really dislike the LED choices. My macro keys were replaced with novelty keys long ago.

According to the pre-order listings for the Shine II from my local distributor there will in fact be a White LED with Brown Switch version.

I'm contemplating this, too. Aesthetically, they appear rather identical, but reading another thread on here about how the USB port on the Shine I went bad after 14 months has me wondering about the build quality of the Shine I and whether there were any changed in production for the upcoming Shine II.
It would be my first mechanical keyboard so I'm going about it rather methodically and look wise I love the Ducky Shine so it's what I'm leaning towards, but waiting over a month for it to come out will certainly test my patience.
On a side note is there pricing for the Shine II yet and how difficult do you feel it will be to get a hold of once it's released?
-
I emailed the company and they said white will be released in 1.5 months
Thanks for your mail.
Yes, we will release White LED in Shine ii but please wait for 1.5 months.
thanks.

Good luck! You can do as much research as you like, but until you actually get hold of a keyboard and start using it you won't know what they are really like. No shop has display keyboards near me to try, and I do not know anyone else who has one, so I just went ahead and got a Ducky Shine with Cherry MX blue keys. Fortunately I love it, so it was the right choice :-)

My local reseller is listing them already at the same price as the original Ducky Shine.

Thanks! The only one I've actually messed with is cherry blues on the Razer Black Widow, which were great, but I still want to feel the cherry browns to get an idea of just how different they feel. I'll be using it mostly for typing, but also some gaming once in awhile.
-
A few reviews I read suggested that the tactile feedback on the browns was a lot more subtle than the blues, one comment said it was barely noticable.
I was tossing up whether to get a brown, but went with a second blue - I just love the clicky sound :)
