Title: what to do with my broken keyboard? and need recs on a new
Post by: phx on Tue, 31 July 2012, 14:56:55: I recently broke my DAS keyboard, the USB controller is broken probably. What do I do with it?
- sell it as-is on ebay
- sell the blank key caps and the bare bone separately
- sell the blank key caps, solder off all switches and sell the switches.

also need a new one, most likely will get another DAS but I'm willing to try others.

- brown switch
- full keyboard
- ~$100
- Costar stabilizer

the keyboard actually works now, but due to the wash it is very stiff. I'm looking for ways to open up my DAS and maybe try to lubricate the switches.

and the compact version only comes with Blue switches right?

Post by: IvanIvanovich on Tue, 31 July 2012, 18:10:59: No, Rapid comes in blue, brown, red, and black. Just might be hard to find certain switch types in stock depending. Rosewill, and maybe if you can find used Filco would be good choices.
As far as what to do with the old one, parting it out to switches and keycaps would probably get you the most out of it towards your new boards.

it was broken 2 days ago due to water damage ... good thing I gave it 1 last try before buying new ones.

but I do have another question, anyone got a guide/video on how to open the DAS keyboard? I tried it the other day, removed 5 screws but the plate still wouldn't budge beyond the top right corner. I'm asking this because one of my switches is slightly broken.

EDIT: well, think the water ruined the keys, might have t buy new ones afterall.

Post by: do_Og@n on Tue, 31 July 2012, 22:49:29: I recently tried to take one of these apart and let's just say I would rather attempt a root canal on myself. After taking off all of the screws, including the one hidden under the top sticker on the back, I had to pry the whole thing apart with two flat head screwdrivers. There are a bunch of plastic lips holding it together on the inside and if you aren't careful some of them will break. Also if you aren't careful enough you will ding the outside of the case trying to pry it apart.

My suggestion is if you don't have to take it apart...don't.

Post by: Lethal Squirrel on Wed, 01 August 2012, 00:14:25: I don't the the switches will work right if they're lubricated. The internals are too small and precise. the lube will just make them stick together.
