okay, I don't know what happened on the forum, since I haven't been here for few months, did ripster really get banned? What happened? I thought geekhack don't have mods.
-
Yep, he pushed iMav too far.
-
Don't worry, you can find him here:
http://www.reddit.com/user/ripster55/
-
I'm pretty sure he's also active on deskthority

Nope. They put him on a 1 post per hour limit. He got tired of it.

that would suck..
OT: why do you hate ErgoClears MM>?
-
lol, never thought this day would come. Glad that we don't have to put up with his spams anymore.
-

I don't. Mkawa thought it would be funny :P

Oh, I though he got banned becuase of that ultimate flame war topic on DT or something.
His user profile on DT isn't very descriptive.

He still has OCN.

I think they should let him come back. I always enjoyed his input, even if it wasn't all productive.
-
i think the best thing about ripster getting banned was that his lap dog "captain" also left.

And he probably contributed more useful information to this site than anybody else.

probably..
but he definitely contributed more useless information to this site than anybody else ....

and drama. you can't forget the drama.
something you need to keep in perspective though... he was allowed to remain active after exploiting the forums multiple times, against multiple users. he was allowed to continue breaking the wikis after numerous warnings. through all of this, iMav was vocal about what was going on. iMav has been fairly transparent about managing these forums, yet he's chosen not to share anything as to why ripstard was banned.
that alone speaks volumes.
-
But the "useless" information from ripster was fun! Now all we have left is DanGWanG's subforum.

I agree, I enjoyed his useless info as much (if not more than) as his useful info.
-
I signed up here and within 2 threads I could see his nonsense and blocked him. He should understand such spamming of rambling/useless posts is annoying. He thnks he'd earned it or something?
The wikis never displayed right for me anyway just a bunch of code mixed with the information, and pictures lined up at the bottom....?

That's because he was on your ignore list ^^
-
haha thats hilariously ironic. Pretty much what I was saying earlier, got tired of sifting through 100 yds of sh*t for 10 yds of informational posts. like shooting himself in the foot, but he did it 10 times an hour, and with yt embeds to go with
-
love him or hate him, GH is hurting right now without any of the old wiki's up currently....
could we get a read-only copy at least of his subforum or the cherry wiki's back up at least? I know the images are gone, but there is information in them i've gone looking for at DT or elsewhere and cannot find elsewhere....
-
My thoughts exactly.
-
law is not my expertise, if someone write a post on a forum, who owns the copyright to the post content?

depends on terms of use for the forum and whether such terms are legally binding
-
Some forums disclaim rights so they can't get hammered legally when you post something nasty... others claim rights so you can't ***** when they wipe your post(s) out.
-
You didn't need to go through any of his trolling posts or random posts to get useful information from him. 95% of it can actually be found in the wiki, and that's why he was always telling people to go look in his sig or in the wikis for the information. And if it wasn't actually in the wiki, he'd actually help if you asked nicely.
-
he'd help out to feed his own ego

he'd help out to feed his own ego
ding.
i agree that the wiki content would be good to have, and i know that there's a desire to do so, but on the flip side... having his content restored and him not... that's a little weird too. personally, i'd sooner go without, and rebuild it ourselves as time and experience allows. honestly, the greatest loss were the pictures he took to backup what we all thought to be the case about the various switches or keyboard comparisons.
-
I printed out some off his content and others pages (generally from about 2010) I have html's of. I gave them to mkawa. I have a printed copy of Model M rivet Replacement, I can scan it in and make a PDF of it if anybody needs it.. I did have a copy of the USB Model M mod somewhere. I'll have a look around. I may have some more of Ripster's content.
-
I miss Ripster. He was a genuinely annoying human being, and in a really ugly way, especially to certain people. Thankfully I never got onto his fecal roster.
On the other hand, during my first few months around here, when I was trying to learn about mechanical keyboards, his voluminous writings gave me a wealth of knowledge.
Without a doubt, the NOISE-to-Signal ratio was very high, but his technical content was invaluable.
What is the old saying? "Give the Devil his Due"
-
I say just give credit where it's due, release the information and lock the threads.
-
He was the first one to help on my first spill. Sad days. I usually liked his style but his useless posts were out of control.
-
For science :(
Rip Ripster
-
Ripster did give a lot in terms of content as well as discussion to GH. That much I appreciate, and have told him that myself several times.
It was the ego-driven, mad ramblings that I couldn't stand. Ensuring everything he did was credited, and reminding everyone how awesome his content is. That part, I couldn't stand. I also told him this.
I like a humble person that knows they are good, and doesn't need to show it off to the world.

Let's not discount Microsoft's undying devotion to dominating markets, even when their products fail :P

I said 'undying devotion to', I didn't say they were. Also, fail sarcasm detection is fail.

Haha...I remember that! I could probably pull enough dust out of one of my PC's to make another one of those dogs...
-
Yeap, he's gone so let's move on now, shall we? If you miss him, try here (http://www.reddit.com/user/ripster55) and ban discussion is prohibited on the forums.
