NIBs don't come with the cord. That's the way IBM shipped them.

To elaborate, many of the NIBs were created/shipped as field replacement models. The reason/assumption being that it was being sent out as a replacement for an existing Model M, thus the user already had the (removable) cable. I would imagine one of the reasons there are/were so many of these still available NIB after production ended was due to Model Ms rarely needing replacing.

I'm sure the same could be said about the new in box Dell AT101W's as well. There were so many built, just not enough computers sold to sell all the keyboards with.
