Title: Sometimes A 99 cent Win isn't worth 99 cents

Stuff like that happen often. I bought a HHKB Lite 2 for mac recently.
On ebay it looked pretty allright. But when it came i saw this ...

On top of the extra DNA onboard, it is yellowed! It needs RetroBritght. It also has some burn marks on the underside. All that for 42 british pounds (including shipping cost).

Yes, that 7200.11 series.

Seller claimed "180 day manufacturer direct warranty" as it's a refurb, and the sticker accurately depicts this.

I thoroughly expected a dead drive or one which would die soon. I was right. No biggie, since it's got that warranty.

Call Seagate...nope. Component warranty. Retailer is the only one who can use the warranty.

Seller agreed to pay my return shipping (in addition to the full refund) on account of this screwup.

I just give away stuff like that (especially with a tape stain on it like that) to Goodwill. Not enough time in the world to worry about ebaying ratty old t-shirts.

Sometimes I wonder why people put half of the things they do on ebay. Selling something for a dollar, or a few pennies, is nonsensical. No economical value or importance.

- free insertion listings (50 cents per listing to include pictures)
- 54 listings (29 sold - 14 buyers in total)
- total income of $160 including shipping charges
- another 2 hours writing on parcels and sending
- actual shipping costs $94
- ebay fees $45

so i made a total of $21 for 5 hours work, and sold clothes that cost me at least 30 times that!

Post by: meltie on Thu, 18 March 2010, 07:30:35: I wouldn't do it with clothes but I've put a lot of stuff on ebay for 1 EUR because I didn't want it anymore and I didn't want to throw it away because the items were still usable (computer games e.g.). I may have to invest a little time and not make a profit, but it is better than always throwing stuff away. And for some items, the way to the post office is shorter for me than the way to the waste deposit.
