Gyaa, I want it, but the Enter button...

Wait, the Backspace is still ok. Hmm...

I don't even mind the Cherry Clears/Browns thing.

Wow, the double shot keys look sharp. What are you guys doing with them exactly? I don't follow the cherry switch threads so closely.

I assume that you harvest the cherry switches from one board, and combine them with the caps from others to make franken-cherries? What are your ideal setups?

Single shot windows key however though?  Is this KB a full match to the filco except the enter?

And if you're willing to take a risk I just bought one of these MX8100s, a  G80-8113HRBUS-2.  $55 or Make An Offer. (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290392734351&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT) Now I mention there is some risk here because it PROBABLY is Cherry Brown but may be Cherry Clear.  Also Cherry product codes can get whacky on these POS boards.

I made an offer of $31 and he immediately accepted.  Shipping is only $5.   I get pissed off when sellers accept my first offer.   It's like having a market vendor smile too broadly when you leave his stall.

HAAA!!   I offered $30/ea for two of those boards and he also accepted  LOL.

Hopefully this board will have the properly centerd front row and the centered Caps Lock.

I could be talked into one of those Didjamatic G80-8200hpdus-2's but I guess I'd want to know more about condition, cleanliness, etc. Also this isn't for a swap, just to try browns for the first time.

I've bought a couple different boards from Didjamatic and he quality has been very, very nice.  Shoot him a message on eBay, I'm sure he'd be glad to let you know.

I have three of 80-8200HPDUS-2 boards, two G80-3000LSCRC-2's (one that wears a set of double shots), a Focus board with white Alps (also double shot keys) a Model M, etc...  If you want to check out Browns, grab one of Didj's boards.  Mine came from someone else but it has only been off my desk once since the day it arrived.  I went from the Model M (buckling spring) to the G80-3000 (Cherry Blue) to this board and haven't looked back.  The odd shaped Enter key took a bit to get used to but now it's a non-issue.  You get a mostly standard layout in a full size board with almost unobtainable double shot keys and NKRO at a very nice price from a good seller.

Nope (counter offered for $45), lets try $20. Probably my final offer, don't really want it anymore than that (would prefer didjamatic's instead).

Edit: Nope didn't like $20 either (counter offered for $40). I'm bailing, now to look seriously at didjamatic's.

He came back to my $25 offer with $45 as well. Meh. I can wait for another option for double shots. I want a good Cherry board but the POS boards look a little thick/raised compared to the consumer models that are sloped, with lower tapered front. The high front is one thing I don't like about the Scorpius.

Anyone have sideview images of the SPOS (the ricecar)? nvm I think I found a pic that shows the front more clearly.

Bought one of didjamatic's G80-8200HPDUS-2s.

I had him send it to a friend in Kitchener Ontario since I won't pay for shipping to Japan, and won't be using it until late June at the earliest.

Damn, bought 4 boards already this year. I'm almost hoping I don't have any money come June (so I don't go and buy a uTron or something).

My wife requested a keyboard that's "like the one at her mom's house," (rubber dome) so I'm now seriously considering the G80-8113HRBUS-2.

She basically wants the vertical-enter Brazilian style layout, and non-clicky. She likes the feel of our cherry brown genovation keypad, so once Ripster confirms that these are browns I'll probably pick one up. I messaged the seller too, but they're usually not to hot on pulling keys.

Sorry if you felt it was too dirty.  By used keyboard standards they are very clean.  If they are really dirty I won't sell them, will donate them to a good will place, or I will find time to clean them but Ripster is right, I usually don't have time for that.  I try my best to represent accurately and have not ever had an issue with misleading any buyer on ebay in 10 years.  These keyboards are priced partly due to them being used and that I wanted to sell them quickly.  Remember, you're getting a very rare (check low serial number) and nice keyboard with great switches and double shots for $45.  Double shot key sets alone sell for that price, so please take that into consideration.  And if you want a Cherry Brown donor board, these have alot of them.

Anyway, I don't have too many left but it looks like the other seller Ripster linked has plenty so they should be selling those for a while.

Without seeing the actual condition of the one in question in person, I can't judge how dirty it may or may not have been.

However, didja is right that used keyboard standards vary greatly, and dirty is something one should expect unless "it's freakin' spotless" or "I spent a good hour cleaning it thoroughly" or something like that appears in the listing.

I haven't gotten mine yet.   It'll be like a Easter Egg - Brown Reeses or Clear Jelly Beans?

It should be programmed the same way as the SPOS keyboard I have.  The Cherry software presents a map of keys and you program it to what you want.

That's one way.

Or you can just use the built-in firmware.

Open any kind of word processing window (Notepad, Word, a Geekhack reply window) and hold ALT+CTRL+SHIFT on both sides of the keyboard for a few seconds.  It'll beep and print *** MENU ENTRY ***.

Press the key you want to map- on the 8113, that's any key except the "main" block (QWERTY, number row, etc).  It'll print Programming Key # XX.

Enter up to 16 keystrokes (including modifiers like SHIFT or CTRL) and press the key again.

The firmware acts a little wonky here- in Notepad or Word and probably others, it opens the Find & Replace box (sends an CTRL+H?).  Hit the spacebar to exit programming mode.  It'll print *** MENU EXIT *** (in the F&R box).

Wah-la (or even voilą), you've remapped a key.  Lather, rinse, repeat as necessary.

Whoah - it outputs text to confirm the custom remapping steps.  That's clever.

The HHKB3 should do that.  Would make it OS independent.

Yeah, it's pretty cool.  I just wish you could nest mapped keys to get past the 16 keystroke limit.  >:(

I just figured out that the Menu and Winblows keys are programmable, too- so the ALT keys can be put where they f*ing belong.

The ALT keys, however, cannot be re-assigned from the firmware, so for people that actually use the Menu and Winblows keys, this is probably not so exciting.  I don't use them, though- I was just noticing while playing around with this that they're actually dusty.

Okay.....got mine in today.   Both in really GREAT shape.   Looked barely used if ever.

Model MX 8100.

Article No.  G80-8113HRBUS - 2

Bingo.  Centered Caps Lock as well as front row keys.

My keyboard as Cherry labeled "white" or are they "clear" keys.   They're actually quite nice.   I really like the clear coated FN keys.    So there you have it.   Takes 2 keyboards to get one full set of correct double shot keys to replace a Filco/Das keyboard with.

One small issue.   On both of my MX 8100 keyboards, the lettering is somewhat "yellow" compared to my other double shot keys which appear bright white.   I'll try polishing up a key, but I suspect that these are all less bright than the stark white variety.

On another note, the space bar is still off-center.   Cherry "grey" switch under the space bar??

I'm going to pick up a few more of these and stash them away.   Anyone get some with Cherry Brown switches??

skc

Update:   Yes, the keys on the G80 - 8113HRBUS -2 are slightly yellower than the other DS keys.   And that's despite scrubbing/polishing them.   You can tell that the white part is actually a littlle off-white/beige.    Still nice though ......

Interesting. The lettering on the keys of my MX-8100s appear to be the same bright white as the ones from the MY-7000s.

For anyone still looking to pick up the G80-8113HRBUS-2, this seller (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190376336603) accepts $10 offers. They offer excellent combined shipping prices to boot (US & Canada).

I much prefer the layout on the G80-8200HPDUS-2 though, which is why I also picked up one of Didjamatic's.

Unfortunately I don't. The seller refuses to respond to anything except offers, so it's pretty much a crapshoot.

You're guaranteed double shot keys, and *probably* browns, but if you must have them Didjamatic and the ebay seller listed at the top of the thread will guarantee you a brown switch board and much better customer service I imagine.

I'm finding that tech recyclers are great places to make insane low ball offers to. Some of them seem at accept any number you give them. I scored a NIB IBM rackmount keyboard drawer for $25 shipped today, listed for $80 OBO.

Enh, I've already got two G80-8113 HRBUS-2's- one working, one with "issues".  DS, of course.  One or three more as brown stem donors for other boards with Ble... I mean Black stems, if they were cheap enough....

So the idea with the clear keycap covers is that you print your own labels and insert them for custom keys, but I can't find printable key labels anywhere for cherry boards. Do printable key insert templates exist, or would they have to be homemade? They wouldn't be hard to make, but I imagine anything that I could make wouldn't look professional.

Got the G80-8113HRBUS-2 from the Ebay seller in the OP. It's Cherry Clears.   Surprise surprise.

I don't like em.   Almost the stiffness of a Cherry black with a tactile bump that's almost nonexistant.  At least on this well worn (I mean shiny shiny keys) keyboard.  I'd pass on this batch if I were you.

At least I could pull off the doubleshots I needed for that front row.  Got lots of spare clear capped keys too.

One of my boards has near perfect keys.  The other one looks like the keys were scrubbed with brillo.   On both of them, the lettering is somewhat yellowed.   Is that the case with yours??

So Cherry Clears are different than Cherry Whites??   I checked out the Wiki (Chloe's writeup), but I'm still confused on all of the Cherry details.

I was feeling proud that my $13 offer went through until I saw this thread.  It is cherry browns with double-shot keys.  Also, the case really is a dark blueish gray.  Charcoal?  Has diodes under every key but I was only getting 4-5 kro on the test page, although that could be an artifact of my converter or the browser.  Anyway, the only worthwhile board of 3 that arrived today.  I think I'll try anti-otaku Filco for awhile...

That's the one.  G80-8113HRBUS-2 / 02 if that makes any difference.

I tried it on the Blue Cube and got some quirky results.  Of course, I'm running Linux and I've got some paranoid Firefox extensions running so YMMV.  (I was using this page (http://rollover.geekhack.org)).

...

I just tried it with the Filco and got similar results, so I'm willing to blame this on my computer setup.

Unfortunately, the windows keys are not double-shot.

I won't bother taking photos of mine since it looks just like Ripster's but with brown switches instead of clear.  (And light gray under the spacebar.  I'd like to try a light gray board sometime, but at $25 a switch I doubt I could afford to.)
