Title: I'm Lost Without LOST!
Post by: didjamatic on Mon, 24 May 2010, 11:03:19
I agree completely on the developing characters - this series you really felt you knew each character in great depth and you really understood why they did what they did and the significance of even little things that happened on the show, because you knew where they came from and what motivates them.

This (http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/watch_with_kristin/b182506_lost_redux_see_you_in_another_life.html) has a good summary of the finale, but I've only read half of it.  I'm still in shock from last night.

Great ending IMO.  If they answered absolutely every single question, that woudln't be LOST's style.  I think they answered enough and left enough up for viewers to have their own take.  It was perfect.

I cried during the series finale and once more because ripster and I didn't have a montage sequence. I was hoping J.J Abrams would direct it. the story was predictable but done well.

no Heroes is also sad. all I have to watch this fall is Dexter, Caprica and Stargate Universe :(

Lost interest after three or four episodes. Should I give it another try?

Feeling an urge to watch The Wire again, but trying hard to put it off till winter. The first time I watched all 60 episodes in two weeks. That's... unhealthy.

I wouldn't watch LOST unless you're in the mood to see the best series of all time.  You would need to avoid spoilers and start at the beginning which would be hard to do now.

that is the problem with story driven television series they lose they're appeal if you watch them over and over unlike television series that reset every week.

Deb is great. I have a mouth like her. Michael C. Hall just beat cancer. I was wondering why he wore a toque on his head at award shows.

for The Wire fans.

Cheese: Whassup, my brother? Oh, what what what, uh, you slinging bean pies up in here or something? You with the Nation, homey? 'Cause either you a Muslim, or your mama need to stop laying your clothes out in the morning.

Six Feet Under had the best series finale.

I liked The Wire's ending.  The journalism angle was weaker than the others, though.

David Simon the creator of The Wire was a newspaper writer for a Baltimore paper.

One of the other writers was an ex-cop-turned-teacher.  Presbo's character was based on him.  A lot of the street kids were local, including Snupe.  They did great casting for that show.

ever seen The Corner (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0224853/)? it was a 6 part mini-series David Simon created 2 years before The Wire. it won 3 emmys and spawned The Wire.

it's definitely different. it's about a family living in Baltimore. the father is a "Bubbles", recovering mother, son is slinging. there is no police, press or politics perspective like The Wire and it's not story driven it's more of a documentary based on a true story.

in fact I think The Wire fans will enjoy The Corner more.

would that be the Cadillac or Lexus of nail guns? :P

"Snupe" is how it's spelled on the DVD on the org chart.  I don't watch the credits, so I didn't see how it's spelled there.  Wikipedia has it as "Snoop," though.

I don't watch TV or any shows besides the occasional Fox News or the A-Team. I don't have cable. I usually go on the Internet usually once or twice every two days. I get virtually all my news and weather out of the newspaper every morning.

So guess how "lost" I am without a show I've never seen?

I read from a couple sources last year or the year before the Lost cast had some kind of falling out with the actor who played Eko, he didn't treat people right and thought they were amateurs or something like that. it would explain why he was killed off and wasn't invited to return.

he was my second favorite character, thought his character was deep and rich.

I absolutely loved watching Lost!!! I don't watch that much tv but I am glad I got into this show!

I really enjoyed the character developement and the way they treated each episode. It always felt more like a wonderful movie once a week. From the incredible location, to what I found to be very fitting actors, to the musical score.

It has always reminded me of that game "Myst" I played when I was very young on my Mac IIci. Except I enjoyed the show WAAAAY more =)

I think I will watch it from the begining (I probably missed about 1/3 of the series here and there). I am currently trying to get my girlfriend into the idea of watching it with me, unfortunately I don't think she even has the slightest motivation for it. Maybe I can entice her with some brownies and pizza perhaps (not in that order).

I am actually very happy that they didn't give some type of uber concrete answer to everything. It's the only time I have watched something that actually in some small part felt like I was reading a book. It was a real treat to be sure.

I can't wait to go back and watch some or all of it again =)

I just can't watch prime time TV. As soon as they describe anything as reality, I know its a lie. As long as there is a camera nearby, there is NO reality. I only keep cable around so I can watch Formula 1 racing and eventually I'll find a way to do that online.

NBC and Time Warner are sticking with Flash (http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/27/nbc-and-time-warner-inform-apple-theyll-be-sticking-to-flash-t/).  We'll see how that pans out.  That tactic worked great with HD-DVD.

I forget the details but wasn't HD-DVD actually a superior format?

Something about cost or licensing restrictions...

In any event, I don't miss LOST. I only watch such quality television as the Jerry Springer show.

...but really, I do like Criminal Minds quite a bit.

Not really.  HD-DVDs could be made using the same machinery, tooling, etc. so in theory, manufacturers could transition quickly with less cost.  Video quality was the same.  I'm not too sure why Blu-Ray won, but I think it had a lot to do with Warner Bros. (IIRC) jumping from the HD-DVD bandwagon to Blu-Ray.

Hmmm...I'm lost trying to figure out what "Lost" is. For many years, I've been working 1 to 9 PM at a job that doesn't allow prime time TV anyway. So, I'm not hating as much as just "not knowing" about nightly TV. Buy the time I can watch anything, its Discovery, History, Military channels etc. Obviously, my racing fix is only on the weekends.

Question...is this a "reality" type of show?

I like Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica and Stargate. never liked Star Wars.

The Pacific is a little different than Band of Brothers. Band of Brothers takes you from Boot Camp to Germany and focuses around Easy Company. The Pacific takes you from Guadalcanal to Okinawa and focuses around 3 characters.

The Pacific also paces the action better. in Band of Brothers there was no action until the end of Episode 2 and in The Pacific you see action at the end of Episode 1. in Band of Brothers after Episode 6 the action was over. the action sequences in The Pacific are definitely larger scale.

good lord, why would anybody watch the emmys? take out the parts w/ ricky G in the link that ripster posted and it makes you feel like stabbing out your eyes? idk how jimmy falon retains a job other than janitor, he's so in-funny i can't even say not, or un.
The only reason jimmy falon is still current and in the news is because.
1. conan said he wouldn't take back his slot from jimmy(so ppl go, jimmy has a show?)
2. jimmy actually demo'd a new gadget or 2(xbox kinect)
3. i really can't make up a third reason...

wow the last award in the clip for variety comedy? how the hell does saturday night even make it up there? sure they're a variety show but i don't think they've been funny since i was 7 and i learned what humour was. The only reason saturday night is current is cuz they're able to book the "celebrity of the day" as a music act/host.
Then you have a failed talk show that is only in the news cuz of how ravenous the internet is, i've watched conan since 96ish? off and on channel surfing. I think in maybe the 300 shows i've watched he might've been fun 3x. (i don't "watch" him he's just in the background while i web browse, etc)
And the last 3 shows are all political satire shows, which i believe is how many Americans obtain their current events/news. Aside from the absurdly stupid guests that real time sometimes has for it's panel (ashton kutcher 3x???, jeanie graffolo every other week@!!, random rapper 101) it's really consistently good.

I could see why lost didn't get nominated or won anything... because it was actually a decent show. Sure lots of times it was beyond horrible in back story (what do we do w/ these asians? i know lets just drown em to death), and the acting was so horrible at times, i didn't know you could actually hate 2 out of 3 main characters so much(jack, kate). but we all had our special character that we rooted for. (mine was a former lesbian ER psych, that got written off so she could star in her own horrible sci fi tv drama... don't you know? sci fi cannot exist outside of the syfy[spelled that way] channel)

I'm still pissed about all the awesome cancelled shows due to 'bad ratings' on a Friday night when one does not include non-live watching.. Dollhouse, Sarah Connor Chronicles, now Caprica (not friday showing, I know).

Fox's Friday Night is where shows go to die.
Title: I'm Lost Without LOST!
Post by: quadibloc on Tue, 09 November 2010, 14:08:29
Recently, I learned that there was a final episode filmed for Dollhouse that was never aired... which explained the whole premise of the second season. I learned about that episode due to a web search, because it happened to feature the otherwise famous actress we all remember from The Guild and that amazing music video therewith associated.

Basically, the network that commissioned the series was too cheap to pay for the extra episode needed for syndication to use it as, say, the pilot episode for the next season. I was just really disappointed when I heard this, despite not having watched that show.

And, of course, Star Trek in its third season went to Friday night on NBC to die as well, so it's an old tradition. The good shows die young, it seems.

The whole time I had the impression the producers concepted the whole thing but after seeing season 6, I felt being tricked. And they made up a quick 2-3 connections to old episodes and made a lame excuse for an ending.

Speaking of Sopranos end, I would have been extremely happy if they finished the show with the season 5 finale, bomb explosion -> fade to white - and let the viewers imagine for themselves

Jericho was the most terrible cancel of all time in my book

Took two peanut actions (http://abcnews.go.com/Business/FunMoney/story?id=3214156&page=1) just to get this show through season one and at least make season 2 have an ending, even though it was pre-mature.

Why? Escapes me, that show was brilliant and with a little higher budget man it could have been awesome!

If anyone here doesn't know it, go watch.
