deep dish, should go well with pizza from chicago.
-
meh, I never understood the hysteria about these.
-
o.O a friend is heading back to Taiwan for holidays. I should ask her to bring back some, though she's not the geeky kind, so might get the wrong one/get ripped off @ physical store.

meh, I never understood the hysteria about these.
i see wut u did thar

Aren't they just light weight blacks?

yeh he down playing the awesomeness of the red cherries so he can scoop them all up for himself later!
Aren't they just light weight blacks?
yeh light weight baby! they so hot cuz noone can get reds over here.

meh, I never understood the hysteria about these.
I on the other hand never understood the hysteresis about these.

Oops. Just noticed the thread title is PCOnline and the site is actually PChome.
My Mandarin sucks a ducky.
i demand a refund.

I agree, Chicago style deep-dish pizza is overrated.
-
So tempted to get one of these since I love the linear feel of Blacks, but like the weight of Browns. Decisions decisions!
-
Yeah, I wanna take adavantage of that $20 shipping while it's around.
Maybe i'll just buy it and sell my Filco with Browns. I wish FIlco had a Tenkeyless with Reds :[
-
Stumbled over this while adding PCOnline to the "Mechanical Keyboards Sorted By Switch" international buying list.
Speaking of, it hasn't got a listing of Cherry reds in the "NONTACTILE AND NONCLICKY" section. Granted, there's only something like two boards with reds, but it could prevent the occasional looking-for-red thread.

Just decided to pull the trigger on one of these keyboards. Will let you guys know how fast the shipping is this time, how the keyboard feels, and what goodies came with it.
-
Haven't really found a reliable source of these until now and I was loathe to recommend a Ebay seller with $150 shipping to keyboard noobs.
Assuming this works out I'll add to the Wiki.
They're quite abundant in CHINA-town. I suspect that Communist party bought up most of the stock due to the color being the National color of CHINA-town.
Now getting them from CHINA-town. is a logistical nightmare.
-
Why so expensive? You can get a g80-3000 with blues for under $100. The only difference is NKRO and red switches, right? Are the switches good enough to justify doubling the price?

My order from PChome shipped to Finland in 3 business days (counting from the day I placed my order).

Or are they just "rare" switches? Low quantities and all that jazz... Something just for keyboard nuts?
-
It's kind of ironic. You would think that CHERRY would have red switches from the beginning.
-
Well, if you are curious I'd recommend just doing Ghetto Cherry Reds on your WASD cluster first and decide. Taking apart and soldering in 4 switches isn't that hard IF you have the parts and equipment.
I'll do that right after I get my Filco with Cherry browns, learn to solder, find a cheap black cherry keyboard, and drink enough gin to tear apart my new $150 keyboard.
I love that you can combine springs and stems with Cherry MX switches. It's so rad.
-
do they even have nkro? i mean still, they are the best mechanic switches for some sorts of games, and equipment speficially for games has always been overpriced.
i saw someone with a filco tenkeyless who soldered the red switches to it, was kind of awesome. although I'd prefer just the WASD and arrow keys to be red, but meh.

Yes, this keyboard has nkro.

Keyboard just arrived and i'm typing with it right now. It feels really different compared to my Filcos so it's gonna take some time to get used to it.
Shipping was 3 days, SUPER FAST! Box came in good condition, wasn't beat up.
Came with a bonus "Super Clean" cleaning putty stuff.
Initial thoughts:
Pros:
Got here quickly.
Has Cherry Red switches.
Linear and lightweight. Mmmm....
CHERRY FRICKIN REDS.
Cons:
Not tenkeyless.
The shell feels cheap.
No home key markers makes me feel lost.
Keys feel different to type on since they're deeper.
I'll give it a few days and update with how it feels as I get used to it.
Also, I wouldn't have a problem replacing the keys with Filco keys fitting wise would I?

Personally I much prefer the Cherry POM keycaps on this keyboard.. but if you really were gonna replace them with Filco ones, they all should fit besides capslock. You need a stepped capslock key.
-
Cool deal, thanks for the help guys.
I'll see if these Cherry keycaps grow on me before I jump into buying a set of caps.
And if I end up really liking this keyboard I might just put both my Filcos up for sale (Black Tenkeyless with Blacks, and Blue 104key with Browns).

Sixty, I'm still confused about POM and PBT.
Do you think this RicerCar SPOS key is Lasered POM?
Yeah, going by the Cherry recycling documents all of their MX and MY keycaps in black are supposed to be POM. Ironically the spacebar and the newer windows dome keys are listed as PBT.
I think the ricercar spos keys are the "industrial grade" ones which seem to have some type of coating to make the laser texture less noticeable. Going by my collection it seems they do this coating for all of their grey lasered keys past 1998 but only for black keys on POS keyboards.
For example my G81-8000 has the same keys as found on the ricercar SPOS, but all of my G80-3000 have the ones with the scratchy laser and no coating.
Anyway... I'm pretty sure all of the black keys should be POM. I'll fire off a mail to Cherry to confirm.

Just when you think Cherry is going to let you down for good, they do something that makes you smile a little.

After using this keyboard over the weekend i've decided to share more thoughts about it.
Typing on this keyboard is really nice compared to typing on the Blacks since it's a lot lighter so chatting with people and typing is very effortless. The first few days I kept bottoming out a lot since I was still getting used to the lighter feel, but now that i've had more time, I bottom out less. However, i'm a terrible typist and still have trouble touch typing. I notice that if I try to focus on touch typing is misspell a lot more and have more errors. But when I type regularly I have less errors. It's very weird, but it's something I need to work on personally.
As for gaming, i've only been really playing two games recently, Call of Duty: Black Ops and League of Legends.
For shooters, i'm almost always bottomed out on the WASD cluster since i'm constantly moving, and moving my fingers to other keys for knifing, crouching, proning or calling in killstreaks is hardly different from other keyboards, it just takes less force to actuate the action.
For League of Legends, I use the WASD cluster to scroll around the map and I notice that I end up bottoming out when I do this, as well as when I press the buttons to attack and use abilities. Again, I think I just need to get used to putting less pressure on the keys.
They keyboard itself hasn't given me any problems whatsoever, I still don't like how "plastic-y" the keyboard feels and how "scratchy and dry" the keys feel. If I still don't like how they feel, I might just get some Filco keys and swap them out for these, even though I do like the Chinese lettering.
What I would love to have (or possibly make), is a white Filco tenkeyless frame with Cherry MX Reds (maybe with Otaku keycaps). If Filco made one of these, I would probably order two in an instant, but who knows if and when this will happen.
Wouldn't it also be possible to get a white tenkeyless Filco and swap out the switches with the Reds from a Cherry board? It seems like it would be quite some work with removing the switches from both keyboards and then re-soldering the switches back on the other boards.
