Other world leaders were simply saying to him 'Sorry, we can't help you now'.
All they did was realize it was inevitable before Mubarak did.

The most recent similar uprisings (Moldova and Iran come to mind) did not result in revolutions. I don't think this will either. But that's just my humble opinion.

Which would make it a revolution, I think. There's huge differences between Egypt and Iran and Modova! A harsh clampdown would've cost Egypt a lot.

This is just advice; not, unfortunately, orders that must be obeyed. If being a superpower were that simple, one could also order his replacements not to include the Muslim Brotherhood in their coalitions.

But while I had seen that pronouncement by your President in the news, I had not heard of the warm human interest story of Jhonnattan Vegas finding fame after being jolted out of his impoverished pond by the forces of anti-American dictatorship. Surely Tiger Woods had proved that golf was no longer a sport for idle capitalist oppressors, but Hugo Chavez failed to pay attention.

How does that differ from other super powers?

On other hand, Russia isn't western democracy it never has been and never will be. Strong leader is one way to go...

Oh, and since I didn't want to bump the thread there, here's the find I added to my last post in the thread of (among several other songs) "What Band Are You Addicted To".

Oh, instead of adding exactly the same video twice, here's the artist singing the same song again, but only last year - and she still does it quite well, despite not being as young as she was in 1963 (but then, who is):

Having seen that allowed me to appreciate, just as the Swedes would, that she was in the audience when a newer singer was performing the song that she had a hit covering in Sweden back in 1963:

This version... took me a few seconds to recognize, being modernized.

I was hunting for something like this in Finnish, which is why I cut such a wide swath through that country's pop music.

Well, Mubarrak made his big speech yesterday when he disappointed people by not resigning... and now he decides that it is time to resign. Well, better late than never. He can always write his memoirs in exile.
