All that research and modding, and you didn't know how the switch worked? I am shocked and astonished. This has been up for years (QWERTers Clinic; click for more):

I had thought that the hideous overcomplexity of Cherry switches had been well documented forever?
-
I dunno. That moving white clicker on the Blue Cherry slider makes my inner engineer cry.
-
So basically my keyboard consists of 104 tea-bagging switches :D
-
Alps is really easy to understand.
The slider drags catches on the clicky leaf and pulls it down until the leaf snaps back and hits the wall of the housing, which makes the click sound.
-
So I'm guessing replacing alps switches is NOT as easy as the "un-clip" and "pop and drop" methods I used to replace my cherry mx switches?
-
No, it's straightforward on the complicated switches since you don't have to deal with the switching mechanism. You stick a pair of screwdrivers into the switch and pull and you've got your switch taken apart. You've got a clicky leaf, a slider, an upper housing, and a spring, and the rest of the switch still attached to the keyboard. The hardest part is getting the spring back.
Simplified type 1 (Fukkas), on the other hand, are harder. They're a lot more vulnerable to damage compared to the complicated design, and the actuation leaves, which are just two pieces of metal, get bent and damaged very easily, especially if you don't exactly align the upper housing with the lower when putting the switch back together (which is very easy to do).
I've destroyed a few so far. See the switch next to 1 (where ~ normally is, but it was Esc for that particular board) for a destroyed Fukka switch.

Technically, this thread's title is incorrect.
-
Title is in error (technically... grammatically I don't care about).
Thought I'd see if you could work it out for yourself...
-
TYL (Today You Learned) that I really don't care.
About accuracy? That would be a shame.
-
Oh, so the shameless one does want to know!
It's just that a 'crosspoint switch' is something completely different.
-
Tell it to Cherry Corp.
Why? They said crosspoint contact. That's fine.
-
Are you of Italian descent?
-
I am half Italian and half German. For some reason, I'm feeling a little insulted...
-
Maybe I should change that to inquiring about Berlusconian descent?
-
Oh, I get it now. You're a Welly sockpuppet.
-
Wellys YouTube videos and mod posts, like most of his technical posts, is technically not complete.
Just semantics.
-
Today I learned I learned the word?
Hmm, something sounds wrong there.... ;)
-
Still waiting for your objection to the post title.
I stated it. Not my job to educate the only keyboard expert on the planet retaking the 1st grade.
-
blow your minddd
-
Why are you asking, again, after I answered months ago?
Is it that you're trolling? That would be against forum rules.
Is it that you're now harassing people who voted for you in the troll poll that you won? That would be against forum rules.
-
I still don't see Cherry calling it a crosspoint switch (http://www.google.co.uk/search?sourceid=mozclient&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&q=%22crosspoint+switch%22), since it isn't one. They say it's a switch with a crosspoint contact.
I'll save you the trouble of not caring about the difference, again...
TIL that you have a problem communicating precisely your concerns.
TYL (Today You Learned) that I really don't care.
The post title can't be changed here anyway. Which I find odd because at OCN the mods told me it can be and they use Vbulletin. However I've never confirmed this since I've never been the OP there even after 1K posts. What a kibbitzer!
You don't know me well. I have no shame.
Added link to this post from the Cherry Switch Wiki.
Well, speak UP man.
Added this to the "Geekhack Mechanical Keyboard Guide" glossary.
Tell it to Cherry Corp.
Are you of German descent?
No, ItlnStln is.
And he may or may not be a Stallion depending on how picky you want to be.
Have you heard of KBDAuthority.net? They argue about stuff like this.
Well, I'm glad that worked then.
He has bigger worries than semantics right now.
Who?
Oh yeah. Wellington1869. See - I take Semantics Seriously!
He forgot that ALPS has one proper orientation for the sliders and upper case.
Still waiting for your objection to the post title.
TIL the word "Cruciform". As in, "Cherry MX Reds have the same cruciform dimensions as any other MX switch."
Rusty, haven't been hanging around Reddit much. Gotten boring.
Typical political crap.

This wasn't bad though (http://www.reddit.com/r/funny/comments/jdo26/my_girlfriend_is_like_a_trampoline/).
You should try English as a first language.
Cat got your tongue?
Is it the plural thingie - it's versus its?
In America this is IT.

Oh wait, that's Cousin Itt.
If it's a little grammar thing that's against forum rules.
