I made this in about 15 minutes.

I lack the technical prowess to physically make something like this, but still, the idea of a tiny buckling spring board is beyond awesome.
-
I'm buying! LOL.

You made this... but you didn't? Mind blown.

I added the word physically. Just for you.

Just take my money!

This kind of thing really needs the Sun/HHKB layout - backspace in place of \|, esc in place of `~, `~ and \| in place of backspace.
IMO it would look even more awesome without a case - just the steel plate with keys and a tiny PCB with some modern microcontroller with integrated USB support. Maybe even it would be possible to route wires under this black plastic plate and hide all electronics behind enter and shift.

Clickclack already did it :P

Yeah, clickclack's micro M is best looking buckling spring keyboard ever. But all images of it on GH seem to have gone.
My mod M is a little lager and ugly case but shares the concept.

Did you cut a membrane for that? Is there a buildlog somwhere?

I would love something like this. See also mkawa's Project SSK thread.

I've thought about doing exactly this to a Unicomp Ultra Classic. The problem is the utility of the result. To be a useful "Buckling Poker", it needs Fn layering. This could be done with a Teensy or something, but it would be a fair amount of work. The Ultra Classic is 104, so you have the extra keys you need for Fn. Another idea is to start with a Model F XT, which needs a Teensy anyway.

Reminds me of the PCjr keyboard!

Were the PCjr keyboards mechanical?

Were the PCjr keyboards mechanical?
Nah, rubber domes. I wrote thousands of lines of BASIC with one of those puppies! I wonder if that keyboard is still at my mom's house. It's been quite a while!

Sad, I was hoping they were BS.

That would've been awesome, but would've driven my parents crazy with the click clack!
I got used to buckling springs early in my career. I started off as an IBM System/36 developer. So I used those wonderful terminal keyboards for about a decade. Now, thanks to Unicomp, I can relive the pleasure of typing on buckling springs. Love them.

Where's kishy when you need him? I really like his "kishsaver" model F

Do you have a link? My search-fu failed me.
Edit: found it.

HOW THE HELL DO PEOPLE FIND **** LIKE THIS

Bringing back a year old thread

There's even a warning that the last post was more than 180 days ago, or something like that.
Should that warning be made more obvious, perhaps?
Or the post require moderator approval if the preceding post is more than 6 months old?
It's all very well to bump an extremely old post, but chances are that whoever started the original thread is no longer here.

There is warning on 120 days. But you can disable it.
