-
So pretty!

Where do I sign up?? :p
Same question :D
-
Nice flat edges and no extra details. This looks like it would be much cheaper than the others, nice. Any price figures yet?
-
Oh, saw the price. Count me in for a 86 version please :P. Sound like I will need some switches and springs. :-* :-* :-*
-
yes, we offer housing, plate and PCB ONLY.
-
For only the case, it is way too expensive for such a simple case. Then I read that a PCB is included, which could justify the price a bit more. Does the PCB have a controller and diodes soldered?
-
LZ Mini is mine!

$250 is way to expensive for an aluminium case?

With that design, yes. They have a hefty margin since there are few milling steps involved. It also doesn't require as many different tools to make this one, without chamfers etc. This design has a higher margin than the MKC case.
They do include a PCB of some sorts, which I guess bring the price to more reasonable levels. I wonder what kind of PCB it is and how complete it is. A PCB with soldered controller and diodes has a notable cost, and if it is included the price makes more sense.
-
^ He did not mention anything abut Hardware, so IMO is just the case plus the pcb
-
There are two designs. One is LZ-MINI and the other is LZ87. Both design has aluminum plate which goes inside the aluminum case. Are these designs that simple?
-
He stated that the price is for the case, pcb and plate. I'm still confused about the LZ mini, is it just the case for MX mini?
-
If no controller is included, which one is supposed to be used? A teensy, a Chamelon or something else. I guess my question is: Is it up to us to make things work or is it provided?
And does the PCB include anything but traces?
-
I saw in the blog page that the 84key winkeyless is coming up. Is it possible to order that?
-
So many question, I think we'd better wait for the new instruction/information from thread owner ;D.
-
As far as I know, the PCB is designed to use Aikon controller. Not sure if they are soldered on, but many times the controller and other necessary parts are offered as package.
Anyways.. the price of $250 seems to be lower than what I thought. KMAC group buy price was in that range and I heard KMAC project team worked pretty hard to get that price range plus the order size was larger in KMAC GB hence possibly better price tier than LZ series.
@damorgue:
Could you answer my question above? Is the design that simple?
Here are more pics on how the aluminum housing looks like.

You can also see that the controller is soldered on. The controller is called Aikon controller and it uses Atmega chip.

It is simpler, with fewer steps and tools needed. That said, since the PCB is included as well as a controller, that makes the price of the case more like 200 which is in line with what you would expect.
Edit: Does the mini case work the same; as in, included pcb and not made to fit some other model?
-
The cases and plates would only be compatible with A87 PCB and MX-MINI PCB. They are not made to be compatible with Filco or any other mass-produced keyboards.
Edit: Getting key caps for these boards will be an issue for many people who are not collector of Cherry vintage key caps. Many require Cherry style stepped Capslock and x1.5 bottom modifiers. I don't know if flat Capslock can be used, but I didn't see a single case where such Capslock is used.
-
^ the keycaps are the reason I'm seeking for a korean custom keyboard. However, looking for a 1x modifier in white and dolch color scheme is not easy, I don't know if they exist. In the other hand, for the white on black cherry caps, the 1.5 modifers are even rarer than the 1.25x one.
-
That mx mini case is MINE
-
Where is the winkeyless version!!!!
-
Could you provide an ISO.layout also?
-
Could you provide an ISO.layout also?
koreans don't use ISO.
so chances are, nope.
Where is the winkeyless version!!!!
86 = winkeyless
1.5|1x|1.5
so the case will look the same as the mock ups
-
I would love one of those mini's, but normal PBT caps won't fit. It'll be too hard to find that right shift.

Every G80-1800 will have that short right shift. Btw, it has been a while without any update. Is this dead?

-
I've wanted an lz mini for my mx mini ever since I saw it.
Well, this is the first I've seen the LZ Mini case and have to agree. I'll be all over one of these for my MX Mini when they are available.

At least the imsto ones are cherry profile.

Exciting news and thanks for the updates! ...so if I've read this correctly, these cases (LZ Mini more specifically) will come with the PCB with controller, or is that something that has to be acquired or owned separately?
-
Noob question, can someone help me and show me where I can buy all components to build a board with this?
REALLY interested.

According to DrugER above, they will be made available on their website ( http://red-line.kr ) some point in the near future, but it seems that it'll only be available in Korea until they organize a way to make it available worldwide, possibly though a GB here. As far as I can tell, they will offer the case, plate and pcb with controller, so you'll have to acquire mx switches from another source and solder them on. Just keep an eye on this thread for upcoming news. :D
-
^ So this package he's showing her, only need switches for it to work? 7bit have switches so that won't be a problem.
Thanks

Don't forget the stabilizers

How would one go about getting one of these:
http://lzlife.tistory.com/entry/LZ-S-RED-CARBON-EDITION
-
I'm pretty sure this is a case, and there is no PCB, you have you find your own MX MINI first before being able to use this case. It has the option to be centered stem CAPS LOCK or the left aligned IIRC.
-
Don't forget the stabilizers
Indeed...forgot about them! Do you happen to know if the plate supports Cherry, Costar or both?
-

DrugER mentioned that they would have the PCB below:
yes, we offer housing, plate and PCB ONLY.
It's my understanding that said PCB would have a controller built in, but it hasn't been confirmed yet if it will all be one package (though it seems so).
-
Where do I get the mx mini then?

So confused with this thread is this just for cases or more programmable boards?
-
LZ is custom case service. pcb of mx-mini , a87 isnt belong to LZ.
-
Hm, so this set comes with the stuff which you will need to solder/assemble it yourself?
-
lz help to get lz case, plate and two type pcb(mx-mini,a87). but soldering and the other action is your part.
-
@lee hm, im quite new to this. So get my own switches as well? Sounds good! Anxiously waiting for them to start!
-
yes. switch is also your own.
it seems so delay.
Enjoy keyboarding and Good luck.
-
@lee Kk, thank you! Theres a delay in that project? Maybe its a chance for me to join!
BLUE SWITCHES FTW!
-
leesofi, do LZ people help Geekhack users to get case? I want TKL case
-
Gogo! Korean customs =)
-
How and when are these going to be available to buy?
-
How and when are these going to be available to buy?
+1 please make this available =)
-
The bar foot is amazing and I have always thought that! Amazing design!
-
pretty cool board.
-
I'm still unsure why the Korean customs don't come to geekhack to sell their boards. Do they not want to make money? What happens instead is certain people get them, mark them up and sell at ridiculous prices. I would think the manufacturer would want to make that money.
Please sell LZ keyboards here DrugER and LifeZ
