Title: WTB: IBM Model F Pivot plate/spring & cherry DS keycaps
Post by: AKIMbO on Mon, 20 August 2012, 08:41:26: I need one pivot plate/spring for a Model F. One of the plastic hammers on my F XT broke (on the F10 key) so I'm in need of one. Picture of what I'm looking for below.

I am also looking for a nice set of cherry doubleshot keycaps with moogle kit (white on black).

What are they?

I believe it's called carbonized plastic (http://www.google.com/patents/US7709379). Quoting sandy55 (http://sandy55.fc2web.com/keyboard/model_m_trivia.html#springs and hammers): "When the key press downward and the hammer meets terminals on the PCB, capacitance between the terminals are increased and then a switch turns ON." Someone's tried a NON-carbonized plastic hammer (i.e. a plastic hammer that didn't come with a Model F keyboard) - that failed to activate the switch.

Even if you get one set that doesn't shine, it will get shiny pretty soon, so getting a shiny set is not a completely bad idea if price is right.

Yeah, I love them. Nice fat lettering. I'm hoping I can find a moogle kit too.

So the moogle kit should consist of (at a minimum):
2 Control (1.25x)
2 Alt (1.25x)
2 Win (1.25x)
1 Menu (1.25x)
1 left Shift (2.25x)
1 right Shift (2.75x)
1 Spacebar
1 Caps Lock
