Title: LED's for Poker.
Post by: Lethal Squirrel on Tue, 21 August 2012, 20:52:27
I want to change the LEDs in my poker to red. I'm not sure the type of led's I need. Can anyone help me out? :3

You will need 3mm leds.  I plan on attempting something similar (as well as adding leds in other places) but it seems all those I find have a little edge around the bottom that won't allow the led to sit in the switch without sanding it down.

I've been looking for some that don't have a bottom lip, as that would make installing them much simpler!

Also a thought, my Leopold seems to have rectangular leds, so that may be an option. They seem to be lower profile, too.

I'll do some more research to see what I can find  :)

There are also 3mm flat top LEDs which have a wider angle diffusion and are shorter so you shouldn't have to trim the edges (I do anyway).

Where do you usually get them?  I also found another supplier that has a variety of types: http://www.kingbrightusa.com/category.asp?catalog_name=LED&category_name=KCThrough-Hole+LED&Page=1

I don't even know if the stock LEDs on the Poker are all blue?... Be aware that there are series resistors for the LEDs. Red LEDs usually have a smaller voltage drop than other LEDs, so there may be a small risk your new LEDs will emit blue smoke rather than what you want.. You may or may not need to change the resistors as well. It may be a good idea to at least figure out the value of the stock resistors and check that the voltage used for the LED driving is 5V and not something else.
