Title: Mint Gum, Orangesicle, Dark Teal (?) Clacks for Auction
Post by: Roguemaster8 on Wed, 22 August 2012, 19:14:05
So a month ago I had a couple surprise bills come then my hours at work get cut back by enough to make me stop going out on weekends and look at Ramen in a whole new light. Of course, my luck decided to take a turn and fate had some guy on his cellphone t-bone me at an intersection. I always said I would never be that person to auction off clacks for profit due to their rarity, but it's one of the few items I have that will sell quickly. I apologize in advance for all those people that have yet to own or even see a Clack key in person, but I'm afraid I have to do whatever it takes to get the money I need to be financially stable again. I've spent the past week or so looking for previous sales on click clack keys on eBay and found a few listings that went for a good amount but were never finalized. Searching through the geekhack classifieds only gives me cryptic pricing ideas and the obvious "trade, never sell" motto.

These are my reasons for deciding to go the auction route on Geekhack, I wish everyone the best of luck in getting what they want and would like everyone to know that the final auction price DOES include shipping for CONUS. Anything outside of the continental US will have to be discussed after bidding has ended.

TL;DR Sorry for this desperate auction.

Starting each cap at $30, will update each cap with highest bid as often as possible. All bids will be anonymous, meaning all bids will be done via PM. I know there are some who will perceive some backdoor inflation of the bids, but I can only give those people my word I will keep this as fair as possible. Bidding will end at 12:00 am EST on Friday night/Saturday morning.

Dark Teal MX: $172

Mint Gum MX: $80

Orangesicle MX: $90

Sorry for the picture quality, if there are enough requests for a better pic I will do my best to post one. Any questions can be asked publicly in this thread or privately through PM, I will do my best to answer them all as quickly as possible.

ALL BIDDING HAS ENDED, THANKS FOR THE KIND POSTS EVERYONE.

I need the bidding to be anonymous through PM, sorry for the OP being updated so much and so rapidly, I'm still new at managing an auction.

Possibly, but in my opinion I feel like it would lead to "Oh, how typical of THAT guy to bid that amount". I may be wrong, but for now this is just how I prefer to conduct an auction.

Indeed, not to mention gas is going up again in my area. Carpooling is already uncomfortable enough without worrying how much you're making a person spend when they have to drive to your residence.

So many different wonderful colors! I blame CC for making such a wonderful key caps.

My little advice to you is that don't be too greedy. If you are going for the highest prices, your gain will be someone's loss or at expense of their surplus.

Remember, a good transaction is where both parties get what they want paying less than expected and getting paid at more than expected. If someone is paying the most price for a good he/she wants, then the buyer has very little to gain from the transaction. Only when the paid price is below the maximum willingness to pay, there would be good feeling after the purchase.

The reason I think profiteers are being blamed is that they are trying to take all the surplus not leaving anything for the buyers just because they have something rare and wanted in their possession. Those people are not willing to share and I partly understand the flames they get. If you stop at what you think is reasonable and meet your financial needs, the buyers are going to be happy and I don't think you would have to feel sorry because you just shared with someone what could have been your cut.

Good luck with sale!

I can assure you the profit gain isn't what I'm looking for. What I'm looking for is to pay off these fees and bills in time to keep the lights on and a roof over my head. You are right however about about the highest price, though this is an inherent problem with all auctions. I trust that most people on this site have the maturity to handle the value of an item over what they can afford with disposable income. My financial needs feel far from being met, but with enough penny pinching and working a second shift for the next couple weeks I think I will be okay.

Thanks for the advice, you seem pretty knowledgeable on the personal side of supply and demand.

Thanks! And yes, its an excellent shade. Being a Gators fan I'm a little sad to see it go.

Also, less then 6 hours until the bidding ends at 12:00 am tonight!
