The old guide to mechanical keyboards used to have a collection of GIFs showing how the various keycaps physically moved. I found these gifs again (http://www.leopold.co.kr/?doc=cart/item.php&it_id=1325563447 (http://www.leopold.co.kr/?doc=cart/item.php&it_id=1325563447)) but would hate for them to disappear again.
Those and the force diagrams (http://www.wasdkeyboards.com/mechanical-keyboard-guide (http://www.wasdkeyboards.com/mechanical-keyboard-guide) has them, maybe they'd let GH use them) were some of the most useful bits of media I could find when explaining the difference between a membrane and mehanical keyboard. There were even ones for buckling spring and alps, IIRC.
Thoughts?

I think you mean key SWITCHES instead of key CAPS.
Anyways, you could dig through the old Wiki, as is archived here: http://web.archive.org/web/20101102213030/http://geekhack.org/forumdisplay.php?f=34&redirect=no (http://web.archive.org/web/20101102213030/http://geekhack.org/forumdisplay.php?f=34&redirect=no)

i forgot who made those animations... lethalsquirrel?
anyways i think we are within rights to use them but I don't know for sure. If you find out let me know and I'll add it to the wiki.

We should make 3D animated gifs, for the sake of "because we can".
-
They are on Keyboard Story. Let me grab a link quickly... BAM! (http://www.keyboardstory.com/guide)
-
smallfry do you know if those are free to use?
-
I'm sure if you ask Lethal Squirrel, he'd let us. I know that he put them on Geekhack before for use by us. Just ask him first, like everything.
-
i just couldn't remember for sure if he made them :) i'll shoot him a PM

I seem to remember that he may have made a BS and Topre model too... I really want to get them for my private archives. If you get his permission, ask him for the Topre and BS models!
