Title: zinc 37 key
Post by: xJaPx on Wed, 29 August 2012, 13:42:40
Anyone use zinc keys for the 37 key on their daily driver?  I really like the look of them, i just want to get some opinions on how people like to type on them daily.

I have previously had Feng's V1 zinc caps on my Choc Mini. They looked good but sadly the fit was very tight and they actually about halved my bottoming out distance which was very bad as the board felt unresponsive.
However, I believe all this has been fixed in the V2 caps which are still good value for money and look great!

They're very comfortable! They have a quality finish and feel thick and substantial!
And, if you leave your fingers off for a few seconds and go back to typing, the metal is pleasantly cool under your fingers! :D

I find that they give a very good feel to the MX browns that I have them on. Because they weigh more than normal keys, they reduce the amount of force required for your fingers to add to push down the switch, making them feel a bit lighter. I should mention that I have a preference for light, tactile switches though.

hmm, i figured they'd weight a bit more, but never thought it would noticibly decrease actuation force.  im intrigued now...

My scarface caps reduce the actuation force and tactile bump of brown switches. Also the sound changes a lot.

The only reason I didn't like them is because I was already on horribly linear blacks, you would enjoy them on blues or browns!

I find the zinc keycaps amplify the sound of Blues quite a bit. Makes them ping a bit more too... but I only have the Zinc arrow keys, not a full 37 key zinc set...

I think you would enjoy them with the tactility of blues. I just didn't like it because they made an already linear switch even more "numb".

Fair enough, reds are so much lighter than blacks, so I've no idea how that would feel with heavier caps! It could be interesting!
