Title: Ducky Shine v2
Post by: Elux028 on Sat, 01 September 2012, 16:34:53
Hi everyone,

New to the community and still trying to find my right first buy.  I stumbled across a mentioning of a massdrop for the Ducky Shine 2, but haven't seen anything further on it.  So I figured I'd start up a thread and get a few opinions before I either A) disregard the board and go with something else or B) join in when the group buy begins.  Here is what I've gathered up so far on the massdrop and the new board itself.

Did a little reddit digging for the massdrop post for the Ducky Shine 2.
http://www.reddit.com/r/Massdrop/comments/wtnt8/keyboard_amazing_news_read_this_asap/

Some info on it without clicking:
-No price yet.
-ETA 6 Sept, but it's not solid.  Something will show up within a week or so.
-You can have any switch/LED color combo now unlike the YOTD edition. (6 LED colors: http://www.duckychannel.com.tw/en/DK9008_Shine2.html)

From my research, the v1 had some issues that were fixed with the YOTD edition.  I assume this new version goes even further with correcting past issues.

If anyone has any other information I'm all ears, but I hope this helps others who be interested in this keyboard!

Well. I had the ducky shine before the YOTD and I don't have any problems with mine. The only difference I'm seeing is that they included they LED effects from the YOTD Ver. and the acing profiles thing. New LED choices as well (don't recall seeing purple for older models).

Other than that, the ducky shine I have has a pretty solid build. No qc issues on mine. Though if I didn't have it, I would wait for the 2.0. Due to the increased amounts of LED modes as long as its roughly the same price.

Yes, it seems like the Dragon was a preview of the Shine II.  I gotta have my tenkeyless, though :)

Yes there will be a TKL just no word on a groupbuy at this time.

Why not design a backlit keyboard with switches mounted reverse with the LED at the bottom (toward R1) and rock side printed (like MJ2 Ninja) lasered backlit legends? A lot sleeker IMO

I hope they fix the issue where it doesn't remember the lighting mode after a reboot, sleep, or shutdown. Not that it will matter, since I just got one this year. Although I would get a tenkeyless in a heartbeat.

I'm pretty sure that they will have a 'memory' that will fix that problem.

See Lit's thread on modding them to feel like Costars.

Sheesh, am I the only one that likes the cherry stabilizers better?  :p

Pricing at PCCG for the Shine II is the same as it was for the original Shine.

And the main differences, as far as I can see, are the extra "2012" key caps, the extra lighting modes, and that the keyboard remembers the lighting mode across reboots.

All that was not enough to warrant my waiting an extra couple of months, so when I needed another keyboard I just got another Shine (I).

Do they both have full NKRO on USB?

Shine (http://www.duckychannel.com.tw/en/DK9008S.html)

Shine II (http://www.duckychannel.com.tw/en/DK9008_Shine2.html)

There are a few other subtle differences, apparently.  The page for the Shine lists USB & PS/2, whereas the Shine II lists only USB.  Although both have 6KRO and NKRO.

Sorry if I already posted this here, but...

All of the info is straight from Ducky.

We're hoping to have these in a week or two.  Will update our Facebook page and Geekhack Forum accordingly.  :)

There was a new article published within the last day with a full review.  Bad news, it's in Chinese, but the good news is Google Translate does a decent job of translating it.

I do enjoy the demo of dismantling it on page 2 of that link.  I may pass on this since the group buy isn't for TKL :o(
