Hello everyone!
I got bored today, and I was thinking about chwang's gooey caps (see here): http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=34475.msg649708#msg649708
Now these things are awesome! And I love them! So, following on from an idea in the caps suggestions thread to make a Zoidberg cap, I decided to. This is different to a chwang because it's clay based, rather than just painted. I used 3 coats of gel nail varnish to paint this, to give it a gooey feel. :) And then 3 coats of clear coat varnish for protection. The pictures really don't do the cap justice I think, but I had to be quick as I wanted you all to see! :D
Not bad for a first try?
I may produce more of these if people want, but I will have to refine the design a lot, as this cap can still have a lot of damage done to it, meaning it can only be for me, as to be honest, only I know what could happen to it. A produced one wouldn't be a great idea as I would have to fit the whole design in the top of the cap, and it just wouldn't look as good. What you see here isn't exactly practical, it's just a lovely over the top design! :D
Thanks, Alessandro.
Update: I've updated the shape of this cap to have a concave area inbetween the tentacles and the eyes, now there is a real area to press on the cap, and it still looks good.
Anyway, I'm going to be making more of these, including other designs like the slurm can, and non Futurama things like cakes and such. Would anybody be interested in buying these if I were to make more in the time I have?

Very nicely done! Makes me want to get creative with caps...if only I had really good ideas hah
-
Looks good but you should paint the cap to match
-
Cheers guys!
I was thinking of painting the cap, but when I did the prototype with clay all over the cap, it just didn't stand out as much.
-
Really nice work indeed! I hope you also got an ink pouch in there while you were at it....^^
-
Masterly! What type of clay did you use?
-
Hehe I like it.
maybe one for the person who gave the idea? ;)
-
Awesome!! I like it.

Really neat, also looks a little like The Flying Spaghetti Monster
-
Hehe! Thanks!
It's a pretty mediocre second prototype if you ask me. It's just basic modelling clay that I got from a craft store.

makes me think a smushed goomba keycap would be nice to get that concave section in there

I like that! I'll give it some thought.

If you don't mind me asking, how do you attach the figure to the keycap?

It's modelling clay, holds quite well. ;)
