So it seems that Filco has discontinued the White TKL w/ Browns and of course that's the one I want. It's going to cost me about $125 shipped for a used one without caps or I could go for a new Leopold Otaku w/ browns for $100 + Shipping. Should I go filco or just go with a leopold? Thanks.

where do you live? I'm pretty sure you can still buy one with browns.

If you want to customize keycaps down the road I would go with the Filco since Leopold has the weird spacebars. If your not going to customize keycaps then I would save a little bit of money and go with the Leopold. I have owned a couple Leopolds and all of them were very nice. I got rid of them because I didn't like the switch or because they were too large ( I like small form factor).

USA. But Amazon doesnt have the white tkl w/ browns and it's not even listed on the site. I've already got a set of CCnG so I'm replacing the keycaps, but I think $125 is a bit much for a "used" board with no caps. Granted that's shipping included, I could get a different switch board on amazon for 140 new, free shipping.
-
Yeah but I wouldn't settle for something with a different switch because then it wont be the one you REALLY wanted. I don't think that I would pay that price either for a board with no keycaps. I would just wait and see if you can find someone in the classifieds who is selling one.
edit: If waiting isn't your thing order a black one and paint it white. It's not very hard and you can get the exact white that you want. You can then order keycaps from WASD.

That's what I pretty much did. I put up a WTB and got a reply for it. But if it's discontinued, I don't think I'm going to see one retail any time soon, and I'm replacing the caps anyway.
-
Did they seriously stop making it in brown? Strange, that has to be the most popular style. EDIT: or did they just stop making the white cases?
Anyway, I can say two things about the Leopold:
1) Even though most people seem to prefer the hard bottoming out of the Costar stabilizers, I prefer typing on my Leopold
2) Most new keysets seem to come with universal spacebars now, they work on Filcos and Leos. Not sure about CCnG but you can tell by looking at it.
Still, if you have your heart set on a particular model, wait for it. I'll bet you could get a nice one in the classifieds eventually.

Yeah they discontinued the white brown switch tkl's, I cant even find any of the white boards on the filco site. Keyboardco doesnt have the brown switch white tkl's either.
-
Your CCnG spacebar should fit a Leopold tenkeyless. I owned a white Leo with reds and loved it. It was my daily driver for a long time.

qtan has the Filco im looking for for 160... I dont think that's including shipping either. Is the filco name and quality worth the extra $60 or so?

You mean compared to the Leopold? Everyone's preferences are different! Some things to think about
Filco has external LEDs for caps/scroll lock, Leo has them inside the keys.
Filco has a squared look, Leo has a more rounded look.
Filco has permanent cable, Leo has detachable cable.
Stabilizers feel different, that has already been mentioned.
Filco probably has better resale value.
Filco has more case-replacement opportunity.
Depending on how you value each of those things, you may come to different conclusions.

Not really, up to you though.

metalliqaz has a good summary of the trade-offs. IMO though, the Filco is not worth the extra $$.
-
I like the idea of the external LED's because they wont shine too well through the DS caps. I think my best bet is the leo at this point.
-
maybe post in your WTB thread how much you are hoping to spend on a used one and one of us hoarders will decide to part with one...
-
A lot of us have bought Filcos for equiv $190 (£120).
-
OP, coolermaster has quickfire rapid just came out with a mx brown version. Same quality as filco. Although, case is grey, so if you absolutely need a white filco case, then you're SOL. If you're that desperate, then put out the money for the white filco from qtan. Looks like that's the last remaining stock of the mx browns in white filco case.
-
With shipping and everything you will probably spend about $180 from qtan. If thats not a problem then do it but if you are worried about money then I would look elsewhere.

Was just at the Elite site, and the inventory and pricing has been updated. Leopold TKL Browns are now $109, and are now "Out of Stock". Hope you got yours (if you decided on the Leopold).

I'd be getting the Otaku because it's cheaper and I'm replacing the caps anywho, not to mention it's cheaper.
