I was wondering how hard it was to type on cherry mx reds? I have browns and I love the feel of them and I was wondering if these were about the same. I am looking into getting a board with reds and don't want to spend the money if I don't think I am going to like them. I know most people it is a personal preference but I just want to know how they compare to each other. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

Personally I think I prefer typing on reds; I have a Das Keyboard with browns and a KBT Pure with reds, and I prefer the lighter weight of the red keys as well as the lack of tactile sensation.
The one concern I think is most common with black & red is that bottoming out sort of sucks if you're clacking down on them, but this can apparently be remedied with a set of O-rings from imsto or elsewhere.

I like browns and reds equally and they are both nice to type one.

Not a fan of blues. I love browns and really wanna try reds but I am worried about them being too light.

I think once you get used to the lightness of the browns/reds, you can't go back to the stiffer springs. I'm having difficulty typing on my blues at home after typing on my brown switches all day at work.
Not sure if I would like typing on the reds, I think I'm too used to the tactile feedback the brown provides. Do you not have a Fry's or electronic store around you that stocks the K60/K90?

I enjoy typing on reds. I think I may make a few more mistakes because of how light they are and the lack of tactile feedback, but I enjoy the change from browns every now and then.

I have a best buy I think that they stock them. I might just go there tomorrow and try them out. I might even buy one and then return it after I use it for a couple of days. Do you know if the K60/K90 if they are all mechanical or just certain keys? I thought it was these boards but I can't remember.

I have no problem typing on reds. I typed on browns for several months, then got blues and loved them more. I bought my Race with reds with the intention of using it for gaming only, and swapping desk space with my blue board for typing....I haven't touched my blue board since plugging in my Race a few months ago. I thought they'd feel lighter/wimpier than my browns despite using the same springs, but they don't.
Embrace choice! Get some reds! :)

i'm looking to get some mx browns too.. but i have to coworker who is a mx blue preacher and he keeps telling me i'll regret it hahaha

I've tried two of my friends' Reds (RACE & Keycool) and quite liked it. Once you get used to not bottoming out, they're a blast to type on. Definitely not as light/error prone as I expected. For reference, my main keyboard at home has Blues (Filco MJ2).

I just got a board with reds the other day. I've used blues, browns and buckling spring. I was very pleasantly surprised when I used the reds. For typing, I like them almost as much as the buckling springs and prefer them over the blues and browns. For gaming, there is nothing like the reds. Reds have become my daily driver and I think will stay that way.

Personally, I enjoy MX Reds a lot; but even having my board for nearly a year I still haven't quite gotten "floating" down without missing the actuation point at times. I've often wondered about moving onto MX Browns to help with "floating" and more accurate multi-tapping, so my question is does anyone have any reverse input on this subject as well?
edit: I know they should have roughly the same actuation force as well, but are Browns noticeably heavier then Reds (tactile-point aside)?

I start off with Das Brown then got a Filco Red after. I'm actually having a hard time deciding which I like better.
Brown feel more comfortable and forgiving. If you type hard, type light, or bottom out, not bottom out... etc. It all feels comfortable and awesome to use.
Red is a bit acquired taste. Initially you'll make a lot of mistakes because it's so light also no tactile bump, also bottom out kind of feel more harsh compare to browns. But after you get used to it then you kind of like how your finger just glides through red effortlessly, and you learn not to bottom out too much. In that sense red can feel better if you're aware of how you type. But if you just want to be lazy and slam your keys then brown is more forgiving.
Gaming wise red hands down, though for RTS like Starcraft I kind of like MX blue. But in terms of overall experience, I think brown and red is very close. You have to try it to find out :P

I do agree with you, sometimes I still miss the "floating point". Red feels like driving a manual, while if you know what you're doing it has more control and more precise. Brown feels like driving automatic, no matter what you throw at it you'll always be comfortable and relaxing. Not saying one is better than others but it's different kind of experience lol.

I prefer my Blues but am making my brown the main board due to price, cool look and it's close. the tactile feel after using blues does feel a bit 'scratchy' but I am enjoying it. I couldn't stand reds for long typing/coding sessions which is why I bought the blues in the first place.
While the tactile bump on browns is not really noticeable for typing hard and fast it is atleast there and while I type reasonably on the reds (enjoyable infact with their pom keys) I still prefer both of the tactile boards. I do think I prefer the reds for straight fps gaming but other than that I have no problem using the blues for gaming (not yet had time to game with browns but well, we know that works quite well).
The problem isn't the softness it's that you will bottom out no matter what even somewhat regularly. I find it harder to push both tactile switches but the trade off seems to be better comfort overall. O-Rings probably make reds a bit better but not bothering with that mod just yet..
TLDR: Some people like really light switches and some like tactility no matter how 'small'.

The K60/90 have rubber domes on F1-F12, esc, ins, del, home, end, page up and page down I believe. The rest are mechanical. But for this, I would never buy one.

Yeah if I buy one it will be just to test drive then I will be returning it to the store after about a week. I don't think its right to have a hybrid and rubberdome board and charge as much as they do for it.

But that's a good plan because I reckon it takes a few days to really get to know if you are going to like different switches or not.

I don't like Red and black because of the friction. the key stem is always in contact with the metal clips inside the switch housing. thus they grind against each other.
Overtime, with the micro-fracture of the plastic stem, the grinding gets worse.
On the blue, the stem flicks the metal clip and they don't consistently touch the stem because that click piece shifts away on its own, thus the key press feels crisp and not friction-y

i have a brown ducky and a red filco, typing on each is completely different to me anyway. i can't get used to reds, the amount of force required is so miniscule its almost hard to realise you have even got the key registered.
i love browns (well i prefer model m springs but hey they are loud as hell and not that practical day to day)
for me browns are the perfect middle ground. i type alot day to day, and i also game a fair bit. if im doing a hardcore gaming weekend or something i'll swap over and use the filco, otherwise i go with the browns for day to day use.
