HL1 re-created with the Source engine for those of you who don't know!!! I'm downloading it now and it's free!
UPDATE: I just found out that it is not complete yet, it includes all gameplay up to the Lambda Core. The second part is still being worked on and will be released in the future.

yeah, basically, but it's free and valve wasn't involved (community-driven project) so it may be rough around the edges. I haven't read any reviews or anything. Looks awesome though and like rayuki said, should bring back some fond memories of the 300MHz days!

Sweet I've kinda wanted to play it because it's an icon of early PC gaming but in 2012, I'm so used to high end graphics I think it would throw me off from truly getting into the game. And it's FREEEEEEEEE

After I finish moving, I'm definitely playing through this. Looks fantastic, thanks for the posting.

Didn't Valve already upgrade the graphics in HL1? I thought I had already played a Source engine Half Life.
-
Urgh. I formatted my Steam drive and I haven't reinstalled the Source SDK yet.
Looks like it's going to be an extra 4GB to download...

yeah, Valve did release HL:Source officially a while back. This is from the Black Mesa website: "Black Mesa was built and founded on the basis that Half-Life: Source didn't fully live up to the potential of a Source engine port of Half-Life."
-
HL:Source was basically jut HL1 running under the Source engine. All maps and everything else exactly the same.
This is like HL1 if it was created now, using today's technologies. Each map is based loosely on the equivalent original HL1 map, but significantly enhanced. I also read somewhere that some of the boring bits have been removed or shortened, and some of the significant parts have been fleshed out.
I have been waiting for this for a few years now. All I have to do is find the time to play it ...

Oh yeah, I would love to play Black Mesa! Unfortunately the required Source SDK Base 2007 is not available for Mac :( I do have Bootcamp Win7 for some rare used programs, but I'm not inclined to reboot everytime I wonna play BM...
If anybody has an idea on how to get this to work on OSX, please let me know!
