Hey everyone, I just jumped into the world of mech keyboards and settled with a Quickfire Rapid with the Cherry Red's. I always though the reds / black require bottoming out to actuate but mine seems to have a feather trigger. Is this normal?
Also, I have one that doesn't have any branding on it, just wondering if these are still made by Costar?

2mm to actuate, 4mm to bottom, yes that's normal... Still a Costar board, just less ink.

Thanks for the quick reply. Are the blacks the same as well? (2mm actuation just heavier switch?) Might consider changing to a brown now... not sure if I can handle such a light trigger haha.

The black and red switches have the same travel distance to activation, yes. The black ones just have stiffer springs, as I understand. The browns are tactile, but also fairly light and certainly don't require bottoming out. What exactly are you looking to get away from?

The hair trigger. I have twitchy fingers when i play games an noticed I have pressed a couple buttons by accident haha. I was at the store today and the browns and blacks felt really comfortable, but wasn't 100% on the blacks because of the stiffness. Settled with a red because it was the only 10keyless they had in stock.

if you have heavy hands you might not like the browns either - I certainly don't
depending on what kind of games you play and whether you wear headphones or not blues might be a good choice
I'm sure you'd also get used to the blacks though
I prefer blues and blacks depending on what I'm doing

Could go with clears if you're a bit heavy handed, or wait and hope CM comes out with greens. There's a leopold in clears you might want to look into.
If you're okay with 2KRO, an IBM keyboard might be the bestbet. They are heavy, and have a great tactile point as the spring buckles. No accidental keypresses for me!
It took me a bit to get used to the lightness of reds (from bottoming out domes), but it was really rather nice gaming. it allowed me to relax and play, I could get into the game more easily, instead of self-consciously bottoming out my RD keyboard like that angry German kid on youtube.
(I would say this is a normal, average reaction to using a keyboard with rubber domes.)

I read in many places that people have to teach themselves not to bottom out.. how do you do that after 20+ years of hammering :)) :)) :))??? So you guys don't think switching to browns will make a difference?

I know switching to clears caused me not to bottom out and i now rarely bottom out on ergo clears.
