Title: One question on Rit Dye
Post by: kinruan on Sun, 16 September 2012, 10:57:14
what is the difference between the Rit liquid dye, powder dye and the professional line? seems like the professional line stuff is more expensive than the other two.  why it is better? thx,

Actually you want the cheap powder type for plastics. The other ones don't work very well or at all depending on color.

thx man. how about the liquid, since there are some colors such as cherry red that are not involved in the powder products.

I don't think anyone has had very good results with it. There are some other similar ones by different brands like Dylon too for other color choices.

you should really look for 02dazones or iMavs threads about this. The only people I have seen do this successfully have done it on HHKB keys (PBT) all of the abs keys looked pretty bad.

It does go really well with the purple, but I'm moving away from OEM profile and that set just happens to be OEM profile :(

Those mint green KBC caps came like that I think. They had some on taobao in a few pastel colors awhile back. Similar to the pastel rainbow sets but in single colors.
PBT and POM are possible to dye as the melting point is a lot higher. ABS is nearly impossible. I did have one somewhat successful experiment with printing ink though. Dyed a Cherry white on black doubleshot WASD keys magenta. Curious to see how they held up. Not sure who has them now as I believe they have been traded around a few times.

yeah, i do know some of the details since one of my friend  in China is making a bunch of rainbow pbt sets. i am actually looking for a better source of dye for him because all the dye in China is just suck.

Has anyone tried dying those "rainbow" POM keycaps? They are the only ones I know of that aren't black.

You can get full white pom set. I think they are Cherry profile too, been thinking of getting some myself.

Has anyone dyed Unicomp grays? I'd like to darken them to a nice anthracite gray...
