Hi guys!
I was lurking the forum for a while now and I must admit that it's a real treasure in terms of knowledge. :)
So I am on the market for a new keyboard and narrowed it down to either the Filco Ninja tenkeyless or the Gigabyte Aivia Osmium. I live in Canada and my budget would be around the $200 mark.
Give me all you got :) and thanks for such a great forum!
-
have you felt the variety of mx switches?
-
Seems like an odd pair for final contenders. I can't say I would go with the Osmium, I've seen a much higher posts about faults and returns than anything else on those so far. Seems to have some assembly issues, nothing new from iOne there.

Thanks for the reply guys. I tested the 4 most available switches and I guess my hands and fingers felt better on browns and reds. I also found out abou the CM Quick TKL and may just wait for them to go on sale again.

You could... buy the quickfire tkl, but then you'll never have the filco BRAND, that's a reason for some people.
If you're not one of those, then the quickfire rapid is a superior keyboard due to it's identical build, quality, and fair price.

Thanks tp4tissue :)
I will probably buy a Filco Ninja someday... those were the ones I tested in-store and they feel just great on top of the very cool/sexy look!
I was reading the forum all day lol and I guess it will be either a Quickfire TKL or a Trigger with reds (browns as last resort) depending on availability... too bad CM promo codes do not apply for Canada, hopefully one of the retailers here will have them for a good price :P

If you're set on the CM, also consider a leopold, they're also just as nice. the only difference being the stabilizers. While there are purists around here that are all costar, or all cherry, in the end, they perform the same. There is also a mod to make the cherry stabilizers feel like costar, BUT you could never make the costar stabilizers feel like cherry.
So if you buy cherry with the leopold, technically you will get to experience both. ;D.
You can buy the leopold at elite keyboards. They're made in Corea, and All the pro C players use them. except the ones sponsored by steelseries, and they suck...

So much options... I'm so confused!! (wink to Travolta)... I just found this on Newegg http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823129008 low price and free shipping is very tempting but I understand it's a iOne board in there. Still can't figure out why Carter said they will never use them again... is it that bad?

iOne has QC issues with their manufacturing, the hardware's not a problem. Being such, their products are hit-and-miss as far as durability goes.

^ This, so I vote for the QuickFire Rapid. It's easily the best value mechanical keyboard out there, and sacrifices nothing to be that way.

Thanks boredgunner, good thing I did not order the Pro then. I noticed that prices vary (sometimes by a good amount) between different switches. And TBH after reading the forum I can't justify the price of a Filco anymore even if it's considered the best by many.
Hey Carter... show some love to Canada please and get us some coupons to use on online retailers in here since we can't order from CM store :)

Finally got the CM Storm Rapid with Red switches :)
It came with full labeling on the body but it looks really great to me! $80 tax incl. was a no brainer :P
Now the question is can I buy the TKL Filco Ninja keycaps anywhere?

Put it in the classifieds, I'm sure someone will sell them to you.

They can't create new topic in classified, don't have enough post count for it. If no one here has extra set, I have seen them for sale on taobao official Filco, or there are some various other front print sets around too from various vendors. Check with feng and qtan here.

Will do Thanks a lot lysol!

Don't get the filco ninja keycaps, they are mere ABS. Instead, grab some "side print"PBT keycaps like these:
http://www.vendio.com/stores/E-sports-Gaming-equipments/category?right_searchString=side+&searchString=side
I like the looks of these black ones:
http://www.vendio.com/stores/E-sports-Gaming-equipments/item/pbt-key-caps/104-pbt-gold-black-side-printe/lid=18974431
(Both links are to Qtan (A member here)'s store. There are certainly other options as well.)

Go with the Filco
NCIX.CA got many Ninja in stock.
http://www.ncix.ca/search/?categoryid=0&q=filco+ninja (http://www.ncix.ca/search/?categoryid=0&q=filco+ninja)
You'll be under your 200$ mark and you're going to have it in couples of days.

Thanks BucklingSpring, but I got a CM Rapid TKL with red's and I love it! Feels the same as the Filco TKL's for less than half the price :P
Worked out of the box and no issues with any keys or the usb cable. Great piece of equipment.
