Title: Help a total n00b out?
Post by: mars-bar-man on Sun, 16 September 2012, 18:38:49
Well, I'm still relatively new to this mech board malarky.

I've seen a lot of keycaps for sale with things like R1, R2 etc next to them, I figured the R means Row, but the number bit has me stumped..

Does R1 means that's the F row? Or the bottom row with the space bar etc?

Mainly asking because I've got a KBT Pure on the way and I fancy getting creative with some engraved keycaps.

http://catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

i'll be nice this time though :)
R1 means the function and number row for SP-produced keys
R1 means the ctrl/alt and shift/zxcv row for OEM-produced keys, including WASD.

it's not always clear but figuring out the source of the keycaps will usually tell you the proper notation.

This should help you out: WASD keyboard layout (http://www.wasdkeyboards.com/resources/keycap-layout)

EDIT: Sth is right, here is example of SP layout with Rows labeled: Deskthority Wiki (http://deskthority.net/wiki/File:STANDARD125.png)

keep in mind the row difference i mentioned. WASD uses OEM numbering. Most of our Group Buys come from SP so they are the opposite.

Thanks, I'm looking to buy a load of caps from there anyway, I'll wait a little longer before I delve into the depths of Group Buys..
