Hello. I'm isntitabeauty. I'm tentatively looking for a switch to two TKL mechanical keyboards. I want a TKL Cherry MX Red for my FPS obsession. I'm also looking into a a TKL keyboard for typing/programming that I can bring to work or hook up to my laptop, which I believe is easy with the USB interface. I'm also looking into a gamepad for my significant other to hook up to her laptop for some GW2 or D3 fun.

Otherwise I'm looking into some custom keys for specific functions that I don't need to read on occasion. Like creeper for the delete key, Soviet Hammer & Sickle for escape key, arrows for WASD, Grenade for G, and a few other ideas.

Hello there,

Welcome to GeekHack. You'll definitely want to check the classifieds for the keycaps. As for a board, let us know if you have a hard time deciding on one. I'm currently using a TKL Leopold FC700R with reds.

Welcmoe to Geekhack!

A TKL is definitely easier if you plan no carrying it around, in terms of size and weight.  You might also want to invest in a keyboard carrying bag to avoid damage.

Suggestion: get one MX red keyboard and see how you like it.  If you have not tried MX reds before you might find them a bit too light.

You may find that reds are just fine for typing as well. Make sure you give yourself a decent amount of time to get used to them before abandoning them for typing usage.  If you find yourself wanting a bit of tactility after that, you should try browns. Do you definitely need two boards to start out with?

I've tried the MX Red boards several times at Microcenters and Fry's. I'm really into FPS'es so I'm set on how quickly I can double tap or spam the F key! I wasn't so sure about MX Blues. I would have to try them out more after having my Reds for a while. Where should I find a keyboard bag?

Well, I don't need two, but I do want one for typing at home/work and one for gaming!
